Here in the next series of tips is where I try to make you and I both very hungry with great shots of the food from Old Quebec and I promise to only show you the things kind of unique to Quebec. No MacDonald's in these pictures!!!

Here you have the famous French Poutine from Chez Ashton's.

Notice the big cheese curds! This is what makes the French Poutine so much better!

This tastes good... it's not actually maple syrup..but a derivative that I wouldn't know in english...
In french it's called "Tire" (pronounced (tzeer)

Once you start..you won't want to stop!

    But watch the calories!

    Care for Caribou?

    Caribou is Quebec's national drink!

It contains vodka, brandy, port and sherry!

Duning the carnival, people walk around with their canes filled with the stuff and just give themselves a shot every now and again...

    Keeps you warm...and tastes nice!

Nickie giving us a demonstration! :)

    Poutine !

THIS is our famous (our infamous) contribution to world cuisine!
The 'basic' recipe is nothing special,really..just french fries, cheese curds and special sauce.
There are TONS of variations, thougth!

Try Galvaude (poutine + chicken) or a Dulton (Poutine + ground beef. You can also add sausages!)

The best place to eat in in Quebec City is Ashton's.

A poutine is a Quebec-invented meal and up to now it is only available in the province of Quebec. It is made out of warm french fries mixed together with cheese curds and melted with a hot brown gravy (see photo). I was surprised that both Mc Donalds and Burger King offer Poutine in Quebec.

In the Qu├ębec province, we like our beer! (and drink a lot of it! Beers from Unibroue are DEFINITELY my favorite! And I'm not the only one.. Blanche de Chambly won the title of the BEST WHITE BEER IN THE WORLD at different beer tasting championships and was given GOLD medals 3 STRAIGHT YEARS by the Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago (Belgiums famous Blanche de Bruges finished 4th...). Maudite ALSO won 3 GOLD medals consecutively in it's category given by the Beverage Testing Institute de Chicago. And the Fin du monde (means The end of the world, 9% alcool beer, see picture) won 4 CONSECUTIVE PLATINUM medals which is considered the highest distinction a beer can obtain in it's category. Learn more about these beers and other quality beers made by Unibroue at: http://www.unibroue.com Cheers!
