One of Many: Bars Along the Grand Allee

After our group evening meal out, we broke up into smaller groups as we made our way back to the Loews hotel, some opting for a taxi instead of the climb up the cliffs separating the harbour from the heights above! However, I along with guys from Ontario and Indiana ended up at a street bar just across from the hotel. It was a warm summer night and we had worked up a thirst, so we just stood at the outside bar on the Grand Allee and chatted away as we took in the busy scene. Quebec City is so alive - you should not miss it!! The bar was just to the left of this photo but I don't know it's name. The photo was taken on the afternoon that I arrived in the city, as I started my stroll toward the Chateau Frontenac at about 5 PM.

    ?: QC Nightlife/Grand Allee

Went on a pub crawl from the hostel...but can't really remember the names of the bars...the places we went to were fun, but kind of hidden from the casual observer: no neon signs...sometimes no signs at all in front of the bars in the old town. I could have been just enjoying the crawl too much to notice. Anyway, we went with some QC girls who were in the know.
    There's also the Grande Allee
It's a long avenue with many swank clubs, bars, shops, and restaurants. Just outside Old Quebec - near Battlefields Park

The best nightlife is found on Grand Allée, just outside the city walls behind the parliament buildings. Most of the clubs don't charge cover, so it may be worth checking your coat into one of them and wandering between them freely (don't try this in December!!). Favourites are Dagobert (techno upstairs, live bands downstairs), Chez Maurice (for the gorgeous building), Liquid (four different rooms) and the one next to Subway (can't remember the name) for STUDENT CHEESE!

Dress Code: Dress code is casual (ish). Dress up if you feel like it, but in the middle of winter most people are more concerned about avoiding hypothermia.

    The Grande-Allée Street, it's...

The Grande-Allée Street, it's where most of the cool nightlife spots are. Among others, there is 'Le Dagobert', a two-levels dancing bar. On the first level, there is a band and on the second level, there is a DJ. Right in front of 'Le Dag', there is another cool place. It's all in this magnificient Victorian house, four different places. On the street level there is the 'Cosmos', a pub-restaurant, offering food(really good food-see my restaurants page)and beverages. On the second floor there is the Voo-Doo Grill, a fine cuisine, asian restaurant, really good too, and on the third floor there is 'Le Maurice' a techno place, and finally on the fourth floor, there is 'Le Charlotte' who offers different kind of music every night, like one night it can be latino, another night disco, it's a fun place.

Dress Code: no dress code!!but express yourself!

  • One of my favorites places for...

by Blutch Written Aug 26, 2002

One of my favorites places for nightlife in Quebec is on 'The Grande Allée (name of the street)' My two favorites places are a Rock Bar called 'Dagobert' and just in front of it you got the 'Maurice night club' but there are many bars, nightclubs, and restaurants to see in Quebec.
The 'Dagobert' is a Rock Bar with live bands on the first floor, and if u go upstairs u got a disco, good stuff, great place for all style of music.

The 'Maurice' is different, my English is to poor to explain all the good things i have to say about those two places, that is why i give you the internet site of both of them.

Grande Allee (between Turnbull and Chevrotiere): Nightlife

Grande Allee is where all the bars and restaurants are located in Quebec City. I personally found the bars too young (20 and under) especially on the weekend...
