* rent a car or drive your own car (for US and canadian live in East coast) if u travel more than 1 .It is cheaper cost to drive around fast and convinience than bus or taxi . * If u take a taxi ,ask them do they accept credit card ,so u get beter curency exchange later on the bill. * Most US hotel chains such as Holiday INN ,Radision ,Hyatt ,Mariot...will give free their own bus from airport to hotel and some street around the town. When book the hotel ask for that free transpotation. Air Canada offers frequent flights from a number of American cities, and the prices aren't too high if you book in advance. If you can drive there, even better, as there is a lot to see outside of Quebec and car rentals aren't cheap. If you're staying in the Old City, just walk. Although it is pretty easy to get a cab within the city walls. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

The best way to travel to Quebec is to fly. I flew into Quebec and then took a bus to my hotel. You can also rent a car or take a taxi. Walking is a great way to see everything in Old Quebec but to get to see everything you may have to rent a car, or take taxis. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

late on the tarmac, photo yuki by chodearm Let's talk a minute about why I should be mad here. I bought tickets way back on Valentines day and I recieved multiple itinerary changes leading up to flight day. Origionally I was to get to the airport at 8:30 but that changed to 6am, not a problem but this one was out of Newark, which tends to be New Yorkers least favorite of airports. We arrive to the airport as scheduled, we get shuffled round and round as to what city we were going to transfer in, re-routing us through Toronto rather than Montreal as what was first planned. We landed in Toronto with only 30 minutes to make it through customs, aquire luggage, re-scan, re-tag and run to the tarmac. We did it, sitting now inside their Jazz fleet on the way to Quebec. Of course our luggage dosen't make it to our destination when we do. They than proceed to put blame on us showing up late and our luggage must of got to the carousel too late so it might come in later. What are you going to do, I guess I'm suppossed to get mad. Air Canada CRJ by Blatherwick The Jean Lesage International Airport is about 30 minutes from downtown Quebec. Air Canada links cities such as Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Boston, and destinations around the province. Other major airlines that go to Quebec include Northwest and Continental. To get to downtown from the airport you can either rent a car or take a taxi at a fixed rate of $27 Cdn. Leave a Comment

A taxi to your hotel in Quebec has a standard fare from Jean Lesage International Airport. As of late 2006, it cost CAD $30.00 (I think... cannot remember exactly but it's a set fare)... I suppose a tip is necessary also. As the temperature was about -3 degrees celcius when I had arrived, I chose to get a taxi and just get to my hotel to warm up. The driver was very nice, talked about the city and informed me where certain things are located, etc. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Quebec City's Jean Lesage International Airport by Jefie For a really long time, the Jean Lesage International Airport was, well, pretty lame! But for the 400th anniversary of the city, a lot of money was put into giving the airport a brand new look, which in turn attracted more airlines, making it much easier to travel to Quebec City by plane. Although many people still prefer landing in Montreal to save some money, it is now possible to land directly in Quebec City if you're flying with Air Canada, Continental, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines and West Jet. Air Transat, Corsair and SunWing also offer some flights to and from Quebec City depending on the season. I think they did a really good job with the new terminal, providing free wireless internet access and a free business center, a playroom for kids, a restaurant and a Tim Hortons as well as a souvenir shop and a duty free shop. The Jean Lesage International Airport is located about 25 min away by car from the Vieux Quebec area. There's a fix rate for people traveling from the airport to downtown Quebec City by taxi - last time I checked it was $32.50. It's also possible to rent a car (Avis, Enterprise, Hertz, National/Alamo) at the airport. Leave a Comment

Coast Guard Icebreaker & Chateau Frontenac by Bwana_Brown Hey, one of the great things about VT is that you get all these very useful tips from other travellers! Well, I decided to make use of one of the ones that I had read. During the last stages of the afternoon of my arrival in the city, I walked down into Old Quebec where I was able to board one of the ferries that will take you across the river to Levis. The cost for a round-trip ticket is only C$5 (US$3.80) and it gives you a chance to get out on the water to view the boating activity as well as get a different perspective on Quebec City. I never even got off the ferry, and the entire trip took less than an hour. As we were returning to the departure point, I took this shot of the venerable old Chateau Frontenac perched on the cliffs above the old town. In the foreground, is a Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker, one of many that is used to keep the St. Lawrence River open to ships travelling to Quebec City and Montreal during the winter months. The entire river and the Gulf of St. Lawrence normally freeze over right out to the Cabot Strait, where Nova Scotia and Newfoundland nearly meet each other! Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

The Famous Funiculaire by jamiesno Most people put the Funiculaire under must see activities and rightfully so it is a fun ride. You can find the Funiculaire entrances in front of the Chateau Frontenac and in the Quartier Petit Champlain district. You will get a great view but not neccessarily the best views of the city. I'll give you some great tips on view points. For me the Funiculaire was a great tool to get from point A, to Point B. Old Quebec is build on cliff sides and it was done this way for militaristic reasons back during its origins. So it makes for some very steps walks up and down. You can get the idea in this picture I created. One side shows all the steps to get down versus the quick ride back up on the Funicularie for $1.5 CDN, you can't beat it :-) I do highly recommend though that you do walk down to the Quarter Petit Champlain district at least once because there is a lot to see along the way, it is a beautiful walk. I did do this but later when I wanted to return for specific shops or tasks it was much more efficient to just hope on the Funiculaire! On April 1879, work began under the direction of the owner, William Griffith. On November 17, regular operation commenced. At that time, a tourist guide compiled by the abbey Louis Beaudet said : "A Funicular transports you from Sous le Fort Street under Dufferin Terrace to the extremity of Ste-Anne Street. It is the attraction of our City". In 1907 took place a complete reorganization of the Company and the Funicular. The new Company bought the Louis-Jolliet House and the land annexed (where a monument is erected now). This house was built in 1683 by architect Baillif for Louis-Jolliet, discoverer of the Mississipi, who occupied it until his death in 1700. Louis-Jolliet was the first Quebec-born Canadian to make history. The Company changed also the steam system for an electrical one and covered the Funicular. In 1997, the Funicular was rebuilt. This is the only Funicular of this type in Canada. Leave a Comment
