    L'Échaudé: Hidden jewel

This little restaurant on Sault-au-Matelot street has been a local favorite for over 20 years (well I have been going there for 20 years).
Simply put, they probably have the most appealing menu in town. Their duck confit is the absolute best and a steal at 18$. I love the service, the wine list, the bistro atmosphere and the location down near the old port. Go ahead and find this jewel.

    Favorite Dish: Duck confit.

L'Echaude: For some of the city's finest cuisine

    Restaurant L'Echaude in Quebec City

L'Echaude is my favourite "fine cuisine" restaurant in Quebec City, mostly because of the great quality/price ratio. It is located about halfway between the Petit Champlain and Old Port areas, in a beautiful stone building. The place is quite cozy and the staff is always friendly, proving that it is possible to serve delicious cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere. There's an interesting wine list, and the menu changes all the time so you never get tired of going back. You can always create your own Table d'hote by paying a little extra, which makes it possible to order a 4-course dinner at a fairly reasonable price, and the portions are quite generous. Definitely the place to go in Quebec City if you feel like splurging a little, because you know you'll get your money's worth!

If you want to splurge, definitely check this place out. It seems to attract both locals and tourists alike.

It's a bistro with a bit of flaire.

The bouillabaisse like soup starter was great. Rich flavor, fresh seafood...

The halibut was amzing - so fresh and the sauce wasn't too heavy with light citrus touch. The lamb mix grill was good but may be a heavy choice for summer dinner. It has wonderful sauce that went nicely with the chop, but it also had lamb sausage and kebobs. It came with mashed chipeas, basically like hummus.

While it's not too casual, the ambience isn't too stuffy. The outdoor dining area is large and on a quiet street.

The lunch is probably a good deal. I saw a lot of locals having lunch there.
