If you buy a city pass, you have to pick it up at an International Currency Exchange location. Do
not convert your US currency for Canadian currency here. Although it sounds very official, the day I exchanged my money they were offering 1.04 Canadian to the US dollar, and then charging 4 cents on the dollar for the transaction, so you were exchanging dollar for dollar, when in fact the US dollar was worth $1.12 on the day I exchanged my money.
Unique Suggestions:
Pick up your city pass, and leave.
Fun Alternatives:
Exchange your money at a legitimate bank. International Currency Exchange is not a bank, or an official agency.
Taxes !
You may get some refund... on a part of what you will pay in taxes ! But not all! Exemple : no more refund on the Québec's taxes on good you may take back. But you can get refund for the same taxes on short term accomodations untill november 2001. Well to help you here is an information site on taxes refund www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/visitors
Dont get into the trap of paying in USD.
The american dollar is strong so dont send it away. 10 USDollars worth 15 can dollars so go to the atm machines, they will give the best rate for your money. Credit cards are the same way. Be smart not stupid. If people say that quebec is expensive , it is because they got traped.
Do not change your money at insta-cheque places. Their rates are much higher than at actual 'Bureau de change' offices. But the later closes earlier..so think in advance!
:)
But you can also use your Credit cards directly when shopping or at the restaurants. They usually offer good rates.
