Many buildings remain from the late 1800's and early 1900's. The town used to be a favourite tourist destination . The city fathers decided not to update and keep open the ski-hills. Tourists stopped comming, hotels went broke, restaurants went broke. It is the only city outside of Montreal that can 'boast' it has an English High-School , an English and Jewish Community.

There are two streets to shop, eat, browse, and generally enjoy in Ste-Agathe; Rue Principal (or The Main Street) and Rue Saint-Vincent. Here are some photos of the various sights in Christmas season.

We were pleasantly surprised to find that there was a sightseeing cruise from the village around Lac des Sables. Of course, they needed a minimum of 5 people to leave the dock for financial reasons and it was only me and my husband and another couple. So what idea did my husband come up with? He asked the other couple if they would split the cost of the 5th ticket with us, they agreed and off we sailed on our almost private boat. For 50 minutes, we were shown the highlights of the lake including some gorgeous but not ostentatious homes that many of Canadian's elite own as summer homes. There's a bar on the boat as well. You certainly don't have to worry about getting seasick on this placid lake.

20 kilometers from Sainte-Agathe-des -Monts is a small village of Sainte-Lucie. Our dear friend Claire lives here. There is a public beach here, no entry fee. Nice place to swim, go boating or just hiking in the area.

Favorite thing: A boat ride on the "Allouette" will give you a very pleasant trip around the Lake while also providing some historic content of the city, its inhabitants etc.
Fondest memory: Having all my furniture stolen and knowing who took it, where it could be found and being told by the Police and the Prosecutors Office that they will not do a damn thing about it.
