What a beat of the drums !!!
    What a colours !!!
    Dancers completely in trance !!!

If you get a chance to see a pow wow somewhere in the province of Saskatchewan, go and visit such a cultural spectacle with music and colours.
We were lucky and could visit the Powwow on the occasion of the opening of the Campus of First Nations University in Regina. But you will find them all over the country and at least once a year in Regina.

    Information about upcoming pow wow's:
    Information about Saskatchewan Indian Nations:
    Listen to the drums:

Powwow: colourful Powwow: relaxing in the sun Powwow: isn't she cute ??

    Lonely people, lonely birds

Not much happening in the vast interior of Saskatchewan. Once you leave the cities (towns actually) behind, you are on your own. Most of the huge farms are now run by corporate entities and homesteads are few and far between.

The godwit is a skittish bird that did not want to pose for the camera with a pretty lake backdrop. The best I could do was the gravel road that did not provide the best contrast for this interestingly marked bird. Like the avocet, the godwit patrols the shallow salt waters looking for crustaceans and mollusks.

One surprise was the pretty avocet--salt water birds. Never expected to find a large salt water lake in Saskatchewan, but Lake Chaplin is indeed a saline sea between Moose Jaw and Swift Current. The shorelines of this salty lake are pure white from the salt deposits.

As you might expect from the avocets long bill--it feeds on crustacheans, tiny fish and aquatic insects. It is a relation of the sandpiper, but much more brilliantly colored.

The ranchers are waiting every day for opening the US borders for the Canadian cattle. They always watch the daily news, hoping to hear something good about this isue.
