The Olde Shoppe Restaurant: Newtown, Newfoundland - The Olde Shoppe Restaurant

by Cabana_Boy

Naturally, this place is part of the Barbour Family business. I think most people in Newtown are related to the Barbour family, which was made famous by their shipping and general store business during the early to mid 1900s. Anyway, this is a great place for breakfast in Newtown and the people are extremely friendly. I don't think they get a lot tourists in this part of the world; so, they are very interested in you and where you are from. The restaurant is made up to look like an old general store, complete with products on shelves with early 1900's packaging. I simply enjoyed the time that I was there becuase the people were so friendly and I was completely fascinated by the fact that nearly everyone was related in some way. scambled eggs, sausages and lots of coffee.

Bridie Molloy's: St. John's, Newfoundland - Bridie Molloy's

by Cabana_Boy

This place is really an upscale Irish restaurant in the heart of St. John's famed George Street. Besides having all the usual ales, most importantly Guinness, they have a prized Newfoundland specialty for eats...and when you are amongst the Newfies, you have to try the Cod Tongues. A plate of Cod Tongues, a little tar-tar sauce and a pint of Guinness.

Coyote Deli & Grill: Banff, Alberta - Coyote Deli & Grill

by Cabana_Boy

I would highly recommend the Coyote Deli & Grill for breakfast, but go EARLY. The place is really small and tends to filled up quickly. The Coyote is a sort of upscale short order place and they use really fresh ingredients. They even have good coffee. I have eaten here a couple of times and really love they're Huevos Rancheros.

Sushi House Banff: Banff, Aberta - Sushi House Banff

by Cabana_Boy

When in Banff, the night generally starts off with some sushi and lots of sake at Kaoru's place, Sushi House Banff. This is probably my favorite restaurant in Canada becuase I have had so many good times here. Kaoru's really got a nice little set up here. Sushi is priced according to colored plates ($3.50, $4.00, $4.50, etc.). As the Kaoru or his side-kick crank out the sushi, they will place the plates on a little chew-chew train that rides around the sushi bar. You simply pick up the plates from the chew-chew as it passes. Kaoru (or the boys, if Kaoru is too drunk) can also make special orders. The waitress...I mean, the sake...I mean, the Banff Roll... The first time that I went to Banff with BGK back in 1998, we were traveling on business, working in Vancouver. We were staying in Banff for the weekend and had about $120 worth of company money to spend on food between the two of us....

Aardvark Pizza: Banff, Alberta - Aardvark Pizza

by Cabana_Boy

This is a real basic, local joint that generally sells pizza by the slice to drunks late at night. My first time to Aardvark Pizza was on my first trip to Banff in 1998. BGK and I had gotten really drunk on sake at Kaoru's Sushi House and then proceeded drinking beers with Kaoru and Killer (one of Kaoru's old sushi chefs who can only speak Japanese) at St. James Gate Olde Irish Pub until the wee hours of the morning. Needless to say, we were really hungover and needed to get some food in our bellies soon...before it was too late. Well, Aardvark Pizza sounded like the perfect hangover cure-all. We got there at 10:30am, they opened at 11:00am and I think that was the longest 30 minutes of my life. The hot August sun was beating down on us; and, as we began to sweat, passersby could smell the sake and beer sweating out of us...so nasty. What's worse is we coud smell the sake and beer...

Restaurant du chef: Don't miss the Matane SHRIMPS a must

by Bert_Pearson

The Restaurant du Chef is located on in Matane on the 132 route. It faces the St-Lawrence River. You can drop anytime and get the best of our sea food. It's their speciality. You can also taste our local food: Cipaille and Poutine. You will keep the memory of those tasteful dishes for ever. My favourite dishes are those with Matane famous fresh shrimps and the delicious cods brought the same day by the fishermen. The desserts are very delicious. Try the homemade strawberry and blueberry pies.If you stay a little longer, try LA MIE CAFE, 279D'Amours Street, Matane. Nice local food too and very cheap. Near the Matane River.

They have REAL old fashioned hamburgers so thick you must have a big mouth or wear a bib.The walleye sandwich is my favorite.
