Hiking the Heart Creek Trail
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is more of a walk thruogh the forest, crossing numerous bridges. At the end of the path, you can here waterfalls but you can not see them. This is not the most exciting of walks. It is located on the #1 highway just on the Eastern edge of the mountains. It is located on the south side of the highway from Lac des Arcos. At Lac des Arcos, there is a limestone mine. The trail head is marked, but just west of the small bridge where the small creek runs under the road is a good place to stop and start the hike.

Because of where it is, it is a popular place for people to stop for a break from driving and stretch the legs.

    Golden - Population: 4,195
  • Tip Rating:
  • Picturesque little town in the heart of the Rockies! Beside the pretty downtown there are loads of things to see and do especially if you're in outdoors and extreme sports like mountain biking or paragliding.

I was lucky enough to see the local biking championship just south of town it was so much fun!

Otherwise there's a small like at the same place offering excellent bird watching facilities with a great parking lot.

Coleman seemed to be a bit smaller located just west of Blairmore in the Crowsnest Pass. I spent 3 beautiful days here and I already miss it. This area is very calm you cannot find big crowd, a calm lovely region in the Rockies!

There are many reachable walking and hiking paths around town with falls and narrow rivers. I love the Crowsnest Pass!

    Lake Louise - Population: 500
  • Tip Rating:
  • Lake Louise is a very popular and well-known tourist destination. A beloved and the most exciting sight in Canada and this is not an overstatement (as far as the tourists concerned). The village and the Lake have the same name located in Banff National Park in Alberta. The village is located near the Trans-Canada highway west of Calgary surrounded by beautiful snowy mountain peaks making a special and unique atmosphere. In Lake Louise you can find a great visitor centre and a shopping mall called Samson Mall.

    Claresholm - Population: 3,622
  • Tip Rating:
  • Very small town on the highway between Calgary and Lethbridge. Visited this place while we were travelling to Waterton Lakes. Apart from the fact that I didn't find there anything it might be a rational stop between the two mentioned cities.

Unfortunately I have no remained photos of the city but you can get a fantastic and spectacular view anywhere along the highway. This one was taken north of Claresholm. That's the United States!

    Blairmore - Population: 6,500
Blairmore is a little town in the Crowsnest Pass in the Rockies. " Canada's first Communist town council and school board were elected in Blairmore in 1933, which reformed the tax system, and refused to observe Remembrance Day as an Imperialist holiday and honoured the Russian Revolution instead. A street was named after the leader of the Communist Party of Canada, Tim Buck, a decision that was reversed by the next town council. " I just found it pretty interesting.

Beside the strange history Blairmore is a great place for outdoors. There are lots of hiking possibilities. The picture was taken from the Turtle mountain.

    Chilliwack - Population: 69,217
Located in the Fraser Valley in British Columbia. I do not like this city at all maybe because I simply had a bad day. The Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park can be a very interesting place to walk/hike around since there's not too much in the city itself. Of course the area offers excellent fishing, hiking and other outdoor opportunities just like many others in the Rockies. A fascinating mountain peak called Mount Cheam can be seen almost all over Chilliwack.

    Canal Flats - Population: 700
Located near the narrow Columbia Lake. North of the town is Fairmont and Radium Hot Springs, south of the town is Cranbrook.

Not much around Canal flats but the beautiful Columbia Lake definitely worth visiting. You don't even have to stop by in town but you can pull over along the Lake and take pictures.

Located on the highway number 97 and lies east of the Northern Rocky Mountains You'll probably cross this town if you're going towards the Yukon. A probable stop between Prince George and Watson Lake. The ditances are quite big up there and if you're driving long distances this city can be a good placeto stay for overnight. It has an impressive museum called Fort Nelson Heritage Museum and the beautiful Smith River Falls.

Muncho Lake is a pretty small community in northern British Columbia offering some facilities like a gas station and restaurants. You have also possibilities to take a boat trip or take a good hike in the mountains with a fascinating view to the Lake. Here you will surely see some dall sheeps on the surrounding rock peaks. Muncho Lake Provincial Park has two campgrounds if you want to stay over for a night. Otherwise just a few minutes north of the Provincial Park can be found the Liard Hot Spring if you prefer hot water.
