 | Canada Sports Travel | Tips 1 - 10 of 37 | | The Calgary Stampede is known for its famous chuckwagon races, the world's richest rodeo, thrilling midway rides, an extravagant grandstand show, and live entertainment acts, The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth offers an impressive range of experiences and activities for all ages. Unlike in Spanish culture, here in Western Canada they try to ride the bull as apposed to killing it, LOL. I wouldn't consider this eco-tourism however! I remember going to the Stampede one summer and it was very hot, tonnes of great food, lots of activities and a dog show of all things at the Calgary Saddledome which was interesting. It's funny but if your not a cowboy I don't know if I recommend you try to look like one or act like one. It was obvious walking around who was a genuine cowboy and who stuck out like a sore thumb with their brand new cowboy hat on, tight jeans and flashy cowboy boots. It looks hideous I thought, hehehe. In any event this truly is a world class event and very indicitive of western Canada and prairie culture. Ranching is big industry and if this is your think, this is your region of Canada!! Unfortunatly I wasn't into VT at this time so I don't have any of my own pictures to share here, bummer! Leave a Comment

Here is a challenge for the extremist sport people out here in the VT world! Mount Logan is the highest peak in Canada and the second highest peak in North America. Logan is one of the most massive mountains in the world. Its many cliff faces, well over 10,000 feet, rise to an immense ten-mile summit crest of high peaks and saddles. The summit crest spills giant heavily crevassed glaciers for miles over the surrounding valleys. I have only seen the peak from Haines Junction in the Kluane National Park. I challenge you to see the rest of Canada from its peak! Happy climbing :-) I provided a link to my Whitehorse page since its the closest airport! Leave a Comment

Home of Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays and the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts, the Rogers Centre (formerly the SkyDome) opened in 1989, and was the first sports stadium in the world to have a fully retractable roof. The 282-foot (86-meter) tall retractable roof covers eight acres (three hectares) of playing field and seating. It consists of four gigantic roof panels mounted on rails that can be moved to open or close the roof. It takes 20 minutes to open or close the roof. In addition to baseball and football, the 52,000-seat Rogers Centre is also used for concerts and other special events. Home of the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs and the National Basketball Association's Toronto Raptors, the Air Canada Centre opened recently and replaced the antiquated Maple Leaf Gardens. The 19,000-seat arena boasts a state-of-the-art Bose sound system, four Sony Jumbotrons, and more than 640 television screens throughout the building. Montreal's Olympic Stadium was home to Major League Baseball's Montreal Expos until they moved to Washington, D.C. in 2005. However, in 1976 the stadium hosted the world, when it was the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1976 Olympic Summer Games, as well as the track and field events. The 56,000-seat stadium was designed by Paris architect Roger Taillibert. One of its more innovative features is the 575-foot (175-meter) Montreal Tower, the world's tallest inclined tower. It overhangs the stadium and supports its fabric roof by a series of cables which attach to the underside of the tower. Now that baseball is no longer played in the stadium, it presumably will only host concerts by international stars, as well as big exhibitions. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingDirections: The Olympic Stadium is located at 4549 Pierre-de-Coubertin Avenue, and is part of the Parc Olympique complex of sporting venues and parks, several miles east of downtown Montreal.

In the summer months you can go water rafting in many locations around the Rockies areas. Particularly along the Thompson River which runs all the way through the Rockies Leave a Comment Theme: Rafting

For Canadians it must be not extreme at all, but for a tropical brazilian like me, it is indeed a very radical sport, above all when you can ride it in a 120km/h in a narrow snow road! And you can imagine that a single stone in the middle of the road can really kill you! And the french canadians are crazy!;) But thanks to that madness I had one of the most glorious moments in my life! And after some kilometers exploring the beautiful region of La Belle, we stopped in this lovely bar in La Conception for my sacred hot chocolate!
You need a real good snowmobile, in that case, a motoneige, hahahah :) A cool and crazy instructor, if I am not mistaken his name is Claude, very easy to find him, in La belle there is the old train station, his crew is there! :)))))) January 26th, 2005 Leave a Comment Theme: Extreme Sports
