Learning how to walk again under -17 C by RafaelTheSecond Something I know about the canadians, first they learn how to walk and second they learn how to go ice skating....Well I learnt how to walk for the second time in my life at Dowslake in Ottawa...But 32 years later.... From the little shelter where I wore my iceskating shoes to that little seating place in the picture it took me long 10 minutes with the generous help of Mike, and I think that the distance between the two places was less than 3 meters! Brazilians....oh well January, 2005
You can rent your shoes in the lake, the place is simply marvelous! Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: DOWSLAKEDirections: Following the Rideau Canal, it is about 20 minutes drive from the city centre!;)

Text on T-shirt by nighthawk There are many National Parcs in Canada and for a little money you can set up camp for the night. Just be aware of wildlife and come prepared! One day I hope to have the courage to go hiking myself! Leave a Comment Theme: Hiking

In summertimes a really beautiful hike and you can go swimming in the ocean (it's more like a Fjord there) It is very close to downtown vancouver. Take the seabus to North Van there you take the 139 bus to Cap College but get out at the Ladner Exchange and take bus 212 to Deep Cove. It's a very small place and people there know about the hike. At the beginning I almost couldn't find where it starts as it is quite hidden behind trees and all.
Nothing special. it is only about 2 hours both ways... Leave a Comment Theme: HikingDirections: As soon as you get off the bus walk to your right and then the street down towards the sea.

Riding Lake Louise is an absolute treasure. It belongs to a group of about 10 other resorts but is by far the biggest and in my opinion the best. The terrain is so varied and seemingly endless. It took me a full month to ride every marked track and another 2 months to do the whole mountain. The resort is made up of 3 faces of one mountain, one face of another and the valley in between. It took me a solid half hour to race down the front face at full speed. After that I had to call it a day, it that's awsome.
4 layers of clothing is standard. However, the snow is very dry so you gloves and arse don't get wet at all. Leave a Comment Theme: Skiing/SnowboardingDirections: 45 minutes out of BanffWebsite: lakelouise.com

I'm not a big sports fan, but I appreciate that many others are. When you're in Canada you may want to check out some of the sporting activities taking place. You could catch, depending upon the season, an ice hockey game, a baseball game, Canadian football, soccer (football elsewhere), basketball, horse-racing (either standardbred or thoroughbred racing), or some other sporting event. Your first bet is to check the local newspaper's sporting section for what is being played at home while you are there. If you are staying at a hotel, the concierge should be able to help you get tickets. Some excellent athletes can be found at the university or even high school meets, so if you really need your sports fix, don't rule those out!
Well you need to take your enthousiasm, and a good yelling voice! If you're going to an outdoors game in the spring or fall, you may need a seat cushion, or a warm jacket. You can get a lot of "bench-warming equipment" at sporting goods stores, department stores and since you're in Canada... go to Canadian Tire (more than just tires). Oh, a rain coat or poncho might be suggested too. If you're outside, don't forget the sunscreen!
