The World Tallest Building!

by jamiesno

Defining the Toronto skyline, the CN Tower is Canada's most recognizable and celebrated icon. At a height of 553.33m (1,815 ft., 5 inches), it is the World's Tallest Building, an important telecommunications hub, and the centre of tourism in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.Toronto is a major air traffic hub, centrally located in Canada and if you are into tall buildings, Canada has the tallest so this is something for your to consider.I remember its a long ways up in elevator! You can even see as far away as Niagra Falls from here on a clear day. There is also some see through glass that you can stand on. This is a scary feeling to say the least when you talk across that!!

Romantic Quebec - The Eastern Townships

by jamiesno

If you are into romantic hideaways the eastern townships of Quebec offer many very romantic and more expensive than average Inns that will fill the bill.I spent part of my honeymoon in a place called Ayers Cliff near the border of Vermont but in Quebec. The Auberge Ripplecove was very secluded and very romantic. The french cousine was great but be warned very formal as well. The suites where amazing with fireplaces and jacuzzis. Throughout the eastern townships there are many of these Inns on different lakes of the same quality. So this is a great tip if you are looking for something slow paced, a little formal, relaxing and super romantic.

Banff National Park - The Canadian Rockies!

by jamiesno

I was fortunate enough to live in the rockies for a year and will always beleive it to be a special place in this world. I have loved the mountains ever since and I'll never forget walking to work one morning on a cool crisp morning and when I looked up I was face to face with an elk. We just looked at each other and then off he went. That makes you a nature lover!Banff National Park resulted from a dispute over hot springs discovered at what is now known as The Cave and Basin National Historic Site. Though previously well known to natives and a couple of American prospectors in 1874, the rediscovery of the springs by three CPR railway workers on November 8, 1883 set the national park ball rolling. There was no plumbing in the Wild West, and hot water was a valuable commodity. Inept handling by the trio abetted by double-dealing and government bureaucracy eventually led to the Canadian...

by jamiesno

The Basics from:(http://www.torontotourism.com)Situated 566 feet above sea level on the northern shore of Lake Ontario (part of the Great Lakes system), Toronto is one of the southernmost cities in Canada. In fact, it has nearly the same latitude as northern California.Home to more than 100 cultures, Toronto truly is the world within a city™. With a population of 4.2 million, Toronto is Canada's largest city Toronto is the 5th-largest city in North America, after Mexico City, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. If you are into very big cities...

European Canada

by jamiesno

After travelling extensively throughout Canada I really find it hard to say anymore which city I think is the nicest because there are several great ones. But in this case I can say Quebec City is without a doubt different from all others. His history and ambiance literally make the Old Quebec a lot like walking the streets of many european cities. It doesn't feel like your in Canada. Most people speaking french and walking. The historic fortified walls surrounding the city, the great restaurants and cafes make it very european. It is certainly the most romantic city in Canada I beleive and also home to the world's largest Winter Carnaval. I have a link were you can see all my tips on Quebec. If you plan a trip here you won't be disappointed!!

Manitoba - centre of the country

by Bwana_Brown

Manitoba, the "Keystone province", is the 6th largest of the ten Canadian Provinces and is located almost exactly in the centre of North America, midway between both the North Pole and Central America as well as half-way between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. With a flat and watery area of 648,000 sq km, it is slightly smaller than Texas or about twice the size of Norway. My experiences in Manitoba are limited, consisting of a May, 1970 hitch-hiking trip from New Brunwick to Winnipeg and flying into that city again in January, 1998 for a two-day business meeting. I quite enjoyed that winter experience, especially because of the underground and enclosed overhead pedestrian walkways that connected the various downtown shopping complexes! It also helped that an old college buddy accompanied me to a nightclub that was featuring a comedy act. This view of downtown Winnipeg is courtesy of...

Manitoba - Souris even has a Castle!

by Bwana_Brown

You never know what will crop up in small towns but I was still surprised when, next to the Swinging Bridge and on a hill overlooking the river, we came upon this castle-like structure, presently known as Hillcrest Museum. It turns out that construction of Squire Hall (as it was known in those days) was completed in 1910 by Fred Sowden, son of the Squire who had built the bridge. Because Fred's wife had been raised in England and India, he spared no expense in trying to re-create a permanent looking structure to bring back fond memories for her. Because of its unique size and style for this part of Canada, the building is now listed as one of great importance.A few of the features incorporated in its construction are the undulating brick facades dominated by solid looking crenellated towers, parapet railings of simply carved wood, numerous applications of decorative brickwork, including...

Manitoba - Canada's longest 'swinging' bridge

by Bwana_Brown

I finally made it back to Manitoba in July, 2008 on a week-long business trip. On one of my 'off' days I rented a car so I could make the short 30-mile drive to the small town of Souris, specifically to see its famous 'Swinging Bridge'. Souris was born out of an 1872 decision by the Canadian government to grant 160-acres of land to anyone over the age of 21 who settled on the land for three years and made the required improvements to it. This eventually spurred a 49-year old Ontario businessman, William Henry Sowden, to buy up several parcels of land in Manitoba and then recruit prospective settlers for the journey west. The group successfully made the trip in April, 1881 and immediately began building the present-day town of Souris. 'Squire' Sowden became an important figure in the town and bought several parcels of land on the east side of the Souris River which he hoped to sell to new...

Dog Sledding in winter

by johnfromoz

If you are in the Banff, Canmore area of Alberta, Canada I know you must enjoy the great outdoors. So if you also love animals & enjoy doings something a little different, please consider dog sledding with Snowy Owl Sled Dog Tours. My wife, two adult sons & I had the most incredible experience of our holiday being pulled through the snow by these unbelievably enthusiastic dogs. From the moment we arrived the dogs were straining at their tethers to get started. After a very comprehensive induction we were introduced to our dog teams, patted & hugged them, posed for photos & them we were off. The dogs respond to being called by name so the more enthusiastic you are the more the dogs respond. There is something extremely special about being whisked through the snow covered Canadian wilderness with only the sound of the sled on the snow & the dogs to accompany you. They offer pick up & drop...
