The actual falls in Niagara...

by RobertViegas

The actual falls in Niagara are not a tourist trap, but the parking by them is. I actually found free parking in a hill by a small obelisk monument. There is room for about 10 cars, and all you have to do is hike downhill through a path for about 3 minutes to reach the falls. That way, you can save an extra 5 bucks for Yank's, the best bar around.

by jaybird199

While Prince Edward Island is beautiful...it tends to be crowded and touristy in the summer months. I recommend not paying the fee to go across the bridge and stay in New Brunswick and spend some time in its cities, like Fredericton, Moncton, and Saint John. With its victorian homes, entertainment venues, and its swimmable waters(Shediac), the experience is far better than P.E.I.

The beach: Wow, this is a tourist trap!!! I read the brochures telling me about the beautiful beaches at Wasaga Beach in Ontario! That just sounded perfect! A beautiful beach at lake Huron, sunshine, nice sandy beach, swimming.... swimming??? Hahaha, I couldn't see where the beach ended and the lake started. It was all snow and the lake was frozen. It was good that I didn't stay on the beach for a very long time, because it really was freezing cold. And the icecold wind made the chill factor even worse. Well, I have to admit, the brochure didn't advice me to go here in December :-)

Niagara Falls is OOZING with...

by Nomad_2001

Niagara Falls is OOZING with tourist traps. When you go see the Falls, just see the falls. If you are eager to spend a few nights, then make those nights worthwhile with a view of the Falls. There is absolutely no point to spend the night in Niagara Falls and spend the big bucks for very modest accommodations unless you want to enjoy a view of the Falls from your hotel room window. In my humble opinion, one of the worst tourist traps is Casino Niagara: if you want to gamble go to Atlantic City of Las Vegas, don't go to Canada (or any other U.S. casino for that matter, unless you are addicted to gambling or feel the need for the novelty of visiting a new casino). (I reserve comment on casinos in countries other than the U.S. or Canada.)

Port Alberni

by tvdm

I don't know why Port Alberni is in the travel guides, because it has hardly anything worth making a stop for. Sure, the settings are nice, but the town itself is nothing special at all. It's a great place to fill up the car and grab some grub, though!

by jules_rules

Cavendish Beach is one of the nicest beaches on PEI, but if you want to lounge in the sun without paying for it, try the Provincial Parks in the area: Chelton Beach, in Bedeque....or Cabot beach, just outside of Kensigton

Banff, Alberta is a real tourist trap...you'd think they had a monopoly on mountain views. Lake Louise is worth a photo but their are plenty of other glacier-fed lakes in Alberta and B.C. that don't have the crowds or expense.

by toastergirl

I loved Niagra Falls, but going in those tunnels behind the falls was a major waste of time in my opinion. I suppose it was kind of neat to see all the water that close, but if you're pressed for time I'd skip it. If you have to wait a long time it's really not worth it at all.

by Aubergine

After traveling through the mountains and seeing not only the spectacular landmarks, but also experiencing the overwhelming feelings of space, and being at one with nature. I found that I have unrealistic ideas of how niagra falls would be. Whilst the falls did not dissapoint, the actual township is somewhat of an eye opener. If planning to be in the area a day at Niagra on the lake may be more worthwhile then wondering the streets lined with haunted houses and the like.. But be sure to see the falls!!!!

The polar bear, Churchill,...

by hcameron

The polar bear, Churchill, experience comes in many flavors. I am the kind of person that likes to visit nature in a very personal way. Going to Churchhill is a group activity. 95% of people in Churchill have booked a package. EVERY restaurant was packed. I was not part of a tour group and I had to wait until 8:30 to 9:00pm to get in and usually did not eat until 9:30pm or 10:00pm. There were at least 20 tundra buggies with 25 - 45 people in each chasing a total of maybe 10 bears when I was there. (I swear we looked at the same bear twice in a day and counted it as two). Be careful of when you go. If you go too early, the bears will not have arrived. Too late, and the bears will walking northward on the ice. There is the possiblity that you could get all the way to Churchill and see ...... zip.
