Travelling to Victoria from Vancouver.

by worldkiwi

A very inexpensive and interesting way to travel from Vancouver to Victoria is to purchase a combined coach and ferry ticket from Pacific Coachlines. You can buy these at the Touristinfo Centre on Burrard Street in Vancouver's CBD, or at the Central Pacific Station in Vancouver. My one-way ticket cost C$34.80. The journey took about three hours, which seemed very good. The coach took me from the Central Pacific Station in Vancouver, to the ferry at Tsawwassen. We got off the coach when it got on the Spirit of Columbia ferry and enjoyed the views and food onboard. At the other end, it was a short drive to Victoria, where the coach dropped me at the central bus terminal. I can recommend this way of travelling between British Columbia's two main cities.

Inhospitable class on Air Canada.

by worldkiwi

Getting to Canada can be a bit of a drag, especially if you have to fly Air Canada. From my home country there is no longer a direct service to Vancouver (there used to be many years ago). So, I had to fly Air New Zealand to LAX and transfer to a little A319 Air Canada plane to Vancouver.Well, the Air New Zealand flight to LAX was one of the most comfortable long-haul flights I've ever had. Air New Zealand's 747-400s seem to have more leg room in them than their other planes, the service was excellent, despite a full flight, and the wonderful little head rest things, that at first glance look like a crazy design that in no way would make you comfortable, amazingly work a treat to support your neck. I slept like a baby for most of the flight - 11+ hours!Anyway, on to Air Skankada. It was a real shock after the Air New Zealand flight. The cabin crew never even spoke to us, except to tell...

Car share

by carolondon

If you are in Vancouver and fancy taking a road trip on the cheap, head to the UBC campus and check out travel boards in the Student Village. Quite often people will advertise if they are off on a road trip, and they want someone to share driving/expenses on the way. I saw an add for a camper van driving from Canada to Mexico, as long as you pitched in for fuel and food, and shared the driving, you could join the group and see just about everything on the way!

Don't be afraid to buy yourself a ticket for a 7 hour journey through BC. It may seem like a long time to be stuck in a bus, but the scenery out the window is just so beautiful that the time will fly past!

FREEDOM

by RafaelTheSecond

Travelling by car in the winter is not a popular activity among the canadians, though I have noticed that the roads can be very busy in the weekends! It is normal, life has to continue and much before Canada is Canada men always knew how to survive there, and the ones who settled here had to learn...anyway...but today driving in Canada is exercesing your sense of liberty in a white space!;)Never overtake 120 km/h, because they will give you a lovely ticket, and if you are stopped you may lose your license. And if you are a foreigner like me, make sure you have the international driving license with you, the one you have from your country may not be useful in canadian fields!January 29,2005We were going back to Montreal after our short visit to Derby Line in Vermont, USA

Train Travel in Canada

by Paul2001

Because Canada is so vast it is not necessarily the easiest country to get around if you are attempting a "grand tour". This means if you are traveling without a car that you will either have to travel by plane which can be extremely expensive or by train. This latter method is my favourite mode of transportation. Canadian trains are operated by the government owned Via Rail. The trains are very comfortable although I personally think that they are not quite up to the same standards of some Western European countries or Japan. Still they are very clean with restaurants and sleeping cars. This is very important if you are traveling on a long trip within Canada. A trip across the country from Montreal to Vancouver could take up to 6 days. Comfort is important. However what a trip this is suppose to be! Some of the scenery is the finest that you will see anywhere in the world. On the...

Driving in Canada

by meteorologist1

If you're driving over from the United States, driving in Canada is not really much different than driving in the United States. Distances and speed limits are measured in kilometers rather than in miles. Be sure to get used to that. Otherwise everything's the same. The driving habits of drivers are pretty much the same as well.

Trans Canada Trail

by jamiesno

The Trans Canada Trail makes its way through every province and territory. Given the geography of Canada, it is not a straight line but one that dips and curves to include as much of the population as possible. A water route is being used in the Northwest Territories and part of Northern Alberta.North of 60, land of the very hardy. The sections of the Trans Canada Trail that score this part of the country are as totally different from those that skip across, say Prince Edward Island, as Earth is from Pluto! Only a small number of adventurers will see the Northwest Territories’ Trail routes. Those that do travel them – they’re waterways for the most part – will remember the experience forever. Those that do travel this part of the Trans Canada Trail will be following the path of an intrepid bunch of trailblazers such as Frobisher, Hearne and Mackenzie. As is the case in the Yukon, the NWT...

Trans Canada Highway

by jamiesno

The Trans-Canada Highway between Victoria (BC) and St. John's (NL) is the world's longest national highway with a length of 7,821 km (4,860 mi.) The midpoint of the highway is at Batchwana Bay, about 65 km north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The highest spot on the Trans-Canada is Kicking Horse Pass (on the Alberta-BC border, the continental divide) with an elevation of 1643 m, which incidentally is 316 m higher than the Rogers Pass. The Rogers Pass portion of the highway was paved in 1963, completing the coast-to-coast highway. Source: www.transcanadahighway.comPersonally I did one very long trek on this highway myself. I left Banff, Alberta and drove the entire way to St. Anthony, Newfoundland and Labrador. That was a long drive!!!I will never forget it though, I remember after making that long drive I had a much better appreciation of how big Canada is and how different each of the...
