Travel on one of the BC ferries

by bkathryn

BC's ferry system if a great (if one of the few ways) to travel around the coast and the many islands along BC's coast. In July 2002, we took the ferry from Langdale, on the Sunshine Coast, back to Horseshoe Bay, not too far from Vancouver. It was a lovely day!

Take a helicopter flight!

by bkathryn

It's not exactly an airplane - it's a helicopter! In July 2002, our group of 11 people got to spend about half a day flying around in four helicopters, looking at forestry sites and practices. It was fabulous!

Ports of Entry

by traveldave

The border between Canada and the United States is the longest unguarded border in the world. There are numerous ports of entry on the roads between the two countries. On both sides of the border, immigration officials generally wave visitors through without any formalities. However, since the September 11 terrorist attacks, the authorities are doing a more thorough job of checking visitors as they cross the border. Proper documentation should always be carried in the event the officials ask for proof of citizenship.

No metro in Vancouver

by illa

I found it not very convenient to travel in Vancouver. There's no Metro line, with only buses, one sky-train line and sea-bus. It's hard to follow the bus lines as for some main roads, there are a lot of lines but on some others, there's none. I guess owning a car is a must to live in Vancouver.By the way, one day pass (for all the public transportations) is CND8.

No Time Schedule on Your Bus Tickets

by illa

In Canada, traveling by bus is a safe, fast, convenient and reliable way. I took bus from Toronto to Montreal and Niagara Water Fall. I could read, even write my journals on the bus. If you travel by bus, you can get easily a copy of timetables of the routes from any bus terminals. If you buy a ticket, there is neither date nor time on the it, That means you can choose any bus to get on to your destinations. There's no bound of which specific one to take -- but of course, you whould take the bus of the same company. "Greyhound" and "Coach Canada" are the most popular bus companies in Canada. You can also get a lot of travel information in the bus terminals.

The fastest way into...

by jenniferhen

The fastest way into Canada...FLY!Once here you have to either drive, take the Greyhound(bus) or ride a bicycle which would take FOREVER. Remember, Canada is HUGE! I once took the greyhound from Alberta to Northern Ontario, I was on the bus for 27 hours....YUCK! If you can afford it, a rental is the way to go in my opinion, more freedom to stop and check stuff out.

The airlines in Canada have...

by Redlats

The airlines in Canada have been undergoing a lot of change in recent years. There is now only one major carrier (Air Canada - web: www.aircanada.ca with daily flights everywhere including to the US and overseas. There are however a number of discount carriers now - WestJet (web: www.westjet.com), Air Transat (web: www.airtransat.com), Jetsgo (web: www.jetsgo.com), Skyservice (web: www.skyserviceairlines.com) and even Tango (Air Canada's discount airline - web: www.flytango.com).These carriers are a little more crowded, and are like Northwest Airlines in the States - all you get to eat are peanuts. But fares are reasonable - for instance $400 Cdn (less than $270 US) round trip from Winnipeg to Calgary or Winnipeg to Toronto, and occasionally there are sales. Unfortunately, these independant carriers are limited to large Canadian cities, and are not included in services like...
