Canada is a big country. If you travel from a big city to another big city (or just between 2 cities), it is a long way. You make quite a lot of kilometers. It is necessary to have a car to move around.
Warning: Canada is much bigger than you imagine! DO NOT think you can possibly see everything this country has to offer in 1 or 2 trips here!Don't generalize it, if you've been to the west coast, don't assume you have any idea what the east coast looks like- because it's completely different!

A very safe country. The usual precautions against pick pockets, thieves at airports and in the big cities, Public transport is very safe. Police can be called on 911 or ambulance in most areas. Here you can relax and go camping in the wild. No electricity, TV, Phone etc. See 'DEEP River pages for pictures of 'DRIFTWOOD PARK'

If crossing the US-Can.border you may be asked for a valid drivers license or birth certificate.Citizens of other countries must have a passport to enter both countries. There is a restriction on firearms. You must obtain a fishing or hunting license and there is a limit on the # of fish you can catch and bring over the border.Know how much in $ in merchandise you can export.Be aware that moose and deer graze early morn and evening-on the roadsides. There have been many car accidents to the unseen eye. When camping keep your food protected from bears. They are harmless unless provoked.Speed limits are in kilometers--you must wear a seat belt--motorcycleists must wear a helmet. You may smell an odor like rotten eggs when you come-it is the smell of sulphur from the production of paper at the mills. This is the sweet smell of sucess.
If you get out in the rain forest in BC, be careful of the plant known as Devil's Club (Oplopanax horridus). It has big leaves similar to maple leaves, but with large spines on them! Very unpleasant to get stuck in your skin. It's not in the photo, but it was definitely in this forest type and there was some nearby.

-WATCH OUT TICKET :I saw alot of tourist got caught by Canadian police in free way b/c high SPEED problem from Whisler to Prince Rupert .Reasons: really really boring road .Nothing to see beside the road most the time .Trees and trees .Mountains and moutains.Don't u know on free way all days less than 10 car/truck on the same road and same time w/ u ! -Watch out BLACK BEAR : I saw many many time black bear go beside high way to eat grasses .Well, scare me to death the 1st time in front of my car .But after see many cars stop take pictures ,I use to it and of-course NOT STUPID getout the car to take picture of them .WHO KNOW THEY GET MAD or SCARE and ATTACK US ??Here my black bear beside the road (pictures)

Don't be a lead foot like me when driving from Calgary Airport to Banff National Park. You will get a speeding ticket! If it is winter, the black ice one the highway is not easily visible and the sliding on the ice was very disconcerting.
Torontos traffic can get heavy (read grid lock) at rush hour . If you are used to large cities it wont shock you ,most other cities are relatively easy to dive in . Montreal has french signs but the cater to tourists and its very attractive city.
If you are coming to Canada dress appropriately for the season as the temp changes are drastic.Ever wanted to be able to say 'I have been to a place where C and F meet'. Then come to Canada in the winter and hope for a cold snap. -40C and -40F are approx the same.
I think Ontario is a beautiful place, but you may want to be careful when in the city. On my recent trip to Toronto I noticed quite a few beggars on Yonge street. I was also told to watch my purse. You can expect this in any city though. Apart from that you should feel safe in Toronto
