Comparison Shopping with Online Discounters

by 100ACRE

More and more you can get some fantastic deals for rooms on the Web, but you have to be careful or else you could find yourself out of a lot of money with little recourse.Refunds The Problem: Receiving a refund can be difficult. The deeper discount you get, the harder it is to get a refund. The Solution: Keep printouts of the confirmation number and all transactions, as well as familiarize themselves with the refund policies of the agency and hotel where you reserve.VizTravel.com spokeman, Dunstan Ireland, says that travelers concerned about recouping their money should consider travel insurance. "It's important to be aware of the circumstances under which the insurance company will help you get a refund," he said. "But if you qualify, they will save you from a major headache." Properties/Rooms The Problem: The amenities of the room you booked online, and the hotel itself, are...

North American is not American

by Carmanah

In Europe, it's common to call people from North America "Americans", however, in North America, an "American" refers to somebody from the United States of America. Confused yet?Let me give you a common example... a common Canadian example.Canadian visiting England says, "Hi there, blah blah blah blah blah...". The English local says, "You've got an accent. You're American". Canadian says to English local, "I'm not American, I'm Canadian". English local says to Canadian, "Same thing!". Canadian visitor gets annoyed and says, "No, it's not the same thing, I'm from Canada!", etc, etc.The lesson to be learned is thata) A North American is somebody from North America.b) An American is somebody from the USA.c) Only people from the USA are called "Americans"This lesson can be useful in situations when speaking to other North Americans. A Canadian is not an American, nor is a Mexican an...

Here's a well-known image

I'm sure you've all seen this. It's the famous Hollywood sign in the city of the same name in California. A visit to some of the more iconic parts of L.A. is a must. Check out Westwood and Rodeo Drive and of course, Beverly Hills. If you watch a lot of movies, you'll feel like you've been here before.

Another famous house . . .

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., is the address for the White House.D.C. is a great place to visit and for any visitor to the United States who is interested in politics and history. You'll see familiar sights all around from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial to the Smithsonian Museum.

The Big Apple

New York City!!! What a great town. If you're coming from across the Atlantic and you're only going to visit one city in North America, this would be a great choice. In my opinion, there's no other place on earth that offers so much in one spot. If you can't get it here, you haven't looked hard enough.

Historic Philadelphia

by acemj

A lot of people don't think that the USA has much history and granted it's not as old as most countries, but in a little over 200 years a lot has happened. Philadelphia's Old City is full of historic sights, great restaurants and most importantly to me, my sister's house!

Reflections . . .

The reflection of the Notre Dame cathedral in Montreal. This city has a great mix of old and new. When you're strolling through the Old Town, it appears very European, but in the business district it is distinctly North American.
