Sail away!

by acemj

There are miles of coastline to explore and North Americans have a great seafaring tradition. Boating is also big inland on lakes and rivers across the continent. One of the most popular cruise destinations in Alaska, often reached by way of the western Canadian coast from either Seattle or Vancouver.

Road Trip!

by acemj

North America is great to see by car. From big city excitement to wide open spaces, a car can take you there. Of course, the enormity of the continent makes flying a necessity if you're itinerary includes far-flung destinations. Trains are not as far reachind and efficient (for the most part) as in Europe, but they are also a possibility.

A huge continent

by Simonneeddy

Such a huge continent. You could spend the rest of your days traveling here and not see half of it.Travel by rail, plane or automobile is very easy here. Excellent highways and plane and rail service available all over.Canada has a TRANS CANADA Highway and Two Railways which go from coast to coast. We took the railway from Sept Iles Quebec TO LABRADOR in June, 2003. On this trip one sees how vast the wilderness is and how it is full of mountains, lakes and rivers. I live in Joliette, Quebec Canada and have traveled coast to coast several times by automobile. I have also traveled by auto across the U.S.A. to Arizona or south to Florida or west to North Dakota and even to Nogales Mexico by auto.My latest trip June, 2003 was to The Migan Archipelago and Sept Iles then to Labrador return via Fermont, route 389 to Manic 5 and Baie Comeau. A seven day seniors trip by bus and rail and cruise...

Have your Road Atlas handy!

by TropicGirl77

Anyone contemplating a road trip in North America needs to be sure to get their hands on a good road atlas! We seem to rely on Rand McNally, but there are others out there that will suit your needs. The best one I've seen so far, and quite a bit more expensive, is a truckers map ... the pages are reinforced too, for those travellers such as ourselves who seem to really abuse our road maps. A good atlas will include both US and Canada. I LOVE the open roadways and the freedom to choose many different routes to get to one destination. We love to plan a trip to a particular destination, and see how many "other" places we can stop and see along the way.

PassPort to the United States of America

by TropicGirl77

Anyone travelling for pleasure in the United States, needs to purchase a blue book called "Passport" To Your National Parks ~ I think it was about $7.95 at any National Park, and it will allow you to get a "stamp" at each National Park you visit. After the first few stamps, it will inspire you to visit more and more national parks, some for the history, some for the beauty, and some just because you HAVE TO HAVE another stamp in your book! Driving for endless miles, from state to state, collecting refrigerator magnets of each state we visited or drove through. Another thing we've begun to collect are photographs of each State sign as we cross the state borders. The timeless photographs taken along the way.

The USA

by sim1

I have been to the US a couple of times. I made an absolute fantastic roundtrip in the Western part of the US. I went to San Fransisco, Yosemite, Sequoia, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Arches, Bryce, Yellowstone, Monument Valley and lots and lots more. It was a fabulous trip that I can recommend to anyone. The nature here is spectacular! I also went to Florida, to enjoy some sunshine, and made a quick visit to Maine and New Hampshire. You can read more about these trips on my USA page

by MJMaguey

There are so many places that vary with the seasons it would take a book to elaborate... From the Northeast tip of the country down to New York City is picturesque, historic, and in the autumn absolutely breathtaking. The islands - from Monhegan to Block Island - are special, but so are Boston and Cape Cod.Washington, D.C. has much to offer, and depending upon your tastes and the season, a southern or northern route could take you into the deep south, bayous and Cajun culture in Lousiana, or up to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado...On the west coast: San Francisco is probably the most beautiful city, and the California coast up to the giant redwoods is possibly the most incredible stretch of road in the country.

by MistynCool2

Any drives along the shores of any coasts, will take your breath away. Whether it be rushing oceans in conflict with the rocks, or the gentle carress of sea foam, Norh America will amaze you with its beauty and splendor. The many choices to make, decisions to ponder over, this is America, the land of opportunity.
