Nanortalik Travel Guide

The outdoor museum is an unbelievable experience. The old style kayaks are on permanent display. The local school children built an old Iniut hut in which families lived. Inside there is a lot of information and they have an old kayak which you are encouraged to try and get into. You have to take off your shoes to try this.

Visit the local bar and meet the local people in a friendly atmosphere. We were nervous at first as some of the locals appeared to be a bit wild, but they turned out to be very friendly.

sea kayaks can be hired in Nanortalik and you can explore fantastic areas. Contact Nanortalik tourism (Niels) for all the gear you need. Niels is very helpful and can organise maps etc. We brought our own cooking gear. Petrol stoves are best as aquiring gas can be a problem. Niels also runs the local hostel which is excellent.
