Avoid sharp rock surfaces by the snow....I didn't!

My hand ripped by rocks, Kulusuk, Greenland

Ouch! I was so intent on taking pictures and jumping from one place to another that I did not notice that my hand got scratched on of the rocks in Kulusuk - and wow, they were sharp rocks under the snow!

I am not sure if they were lava rocks, but I did notice that a lot of the rocks on the ground where shimmering with crystals, and the nice lady tourist beside me wisely said, "Quartz".

But whatever kind of rock it was, it just ripped through my skin and I guess because of the cold, it did not hurt too much. But it did bleed and when I sent a postcard for VTer SLLiew and Joiwatani in the tiny post-office, blood dripped onto SL Liew's postcard (leaving a genetic imprint of myself, hehehe...)

I also went over rocks and had the other tourists take pictures of me, but if your are not as agile as I - please don't do it. Looking back, if my face hit those sharp rocks, I'd look immediately like an "extra" on the Chainsaw Massacre...

Kulusuk with your kids or if with disability

I think everybody can visit a place if they really want to...but just be forewarned about some difficulties you may encounter during your visit to Kulusuk if you have a child with you or if you have a disability.

We did not have any disabled people in our group but I think they can probably provide you with a little ATV or jeep that can bring you into town from the airport.

For most tourists, the way to go is to walk from the airport to the town. We had two French guides and they were very good in asking people if they can move along - onto a hillside of snow or slippery wet grounds...rocky roads...

There was one man with a four year old....I did not even contemplate bringing my five-year old twins because they are so hyperactive! But I could travel with them here later on....The walk is far and after a few minutes, the child did fall and cried. I felt bad for the dad who had to carry the cute boy for a long time. But it did seem the boy enjoyed his experience though and I got good pictures of him....So, travelling with kids is not impossible to Kulusuk, but be prepared to watch them closely....and to walk...Strollers might not work on the unpaved pathway...
