Favorite thing:
Silver mining town called Real de Catorce, which is being reborn as a rugged tourist destination, that this one night reflected the range of experiences I had seen over a 10-day otur through what is known as the Colonial heartland of Mexico.
In cities such as San Luis Potosi, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes,
Zacatecas and real de Gatorce, I found both the rustic and refined.
Fondest memory:
Though seemingly inhospitable, the craggy, cactus-covered desert mountains of this region are home to cities of enormous beauty and sophistication, rich in culture and history.
Favorite thing:
Take a day-trip to Taxco, one of the silver-craft capitals of the country.
Fondest memory:
The drive out of the city is pretty, whether you take the new toll road or the old road.Once you get there, you will not only find beautiful silver -- particuularly the famous Los Castillos factory and shop (more elsewhere) -- but can also have a great lunch in the pretty town square and enjoy a scenic walk around the narrow and hilly colonial streets of Taxco.
Favorite thing:
DIA 5
If you are interested in buying silver you can spend a tight day in Taxco, waking up earlier and returning the same day would be enough to make a visit of most of the central jewelries in town.
