  • female travelers !!! what you need to bring!

    by dls28 Written Mar 4, 2009

Luggage and bags: make sure that your luggage is locked up and that the bags you bring to use on the streets are thin and can be kept close to you, or a small rucksack that you can wear on your front.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: check on the weather before you come, mexico city can be hot and stuffy and at some times of year it can be very cold !
Bring a good pair of comfortable shoes or tennis shoes for walking around and smart shoes if you plan to eat anywhere fancy.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: anything you would normally need, bring with you - but other than that... sanborns is on almostevery street and has very well equiped pharmacies.

It would be a good idea to bring laxatives or medication to help with diahhrea relief as travelers to mexico city are most likely to suffer from and need one of the two!

Female travelers - if you are going to need them and you use them, bring TAMPONS to mexico as they are not always available everywhere. For some reason there seems to be a bit of a tampon fobia here and in other latin american countries so panty liners are sold everywhere but tampons or GOOD tampons are not always available.

Photo Equipment: bring a camera - theres lots of good photos ops

    Dental Floss

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Is said to be perfect as a CHEESE SLICER, and reports say it is perfect as heavy-duty SEWING THREAD! (Use it as fishing line and as an emergency shoelace) Floss is very strong, practically unbreakable in most situations.

    Toiletries and Medical Supplies

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: This is a list of the kind of hygiene things all of us are very likely to bring with us. It is a good idea to put most of these things in a separate pouch so that you can easily heave it out of your backpack every time you go to the bathroom.

    BASIC

    NECESSAIRE/TOILET BAG
A handy bag where you put all your hygiene items.

Luggage and bags: Regular luggage is okay, because you'll most likely be using a hotel as your 'home-base.' (You need to be cautious about the size if you plan to take it on the metro at all.)

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Check out the weather for the time of year you plan to go. But if worse comes to worse and the weather isn't what you expected (for example it rained when I was there) you can buy what you might need there.

Good walking shoes are a must! Even if you don't walk everywhere, chances are you'll end up standing on the Metro.

Mexico City is a modern city, and almost anything goes clothing-wise. If you're a woman however, I would stay away from short short skirts and anything revealing. Most Mexican men are harmless in their 'flirtations,' but why encourage them even more?

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Birth control items are something you'd problably want to bring from home! As are supplies for contact lens wearers - you can get stuff there, but it's probably not what you want to spend time on your trip doing.

Photo Equipment: If you use a digital camera, bring rechargable batteries and a charger from home. You can plug them in to recharge in your hotel room.

    Plastic Bottles

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: You can use liquid soap, but, well, make sure you bring a small bottle, or it will be half full when you come home.

    Liquid Soap

    Liquid Soap

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Liquid soap in LITTLE CONTAINERS is said to be more convenient to carry than bar soap. A SAMPLE SIZE BOTTLE can be refilled from normal size bottles. Also bring a HAND SANITIZER small bottle.

    Soap

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: SOAP and SOAP BOX
The ones you find along the road may not smell the way you are used to. Soap box is the box where you keep your wet soap.

    Handbag Mirror

    Handbag Mirror

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: GLASS may not be a good idea for some journeys. HIGHLY POLISHED STAINLESS STEEL MIRRORS are available. Also very reflective are the undersides of CDs.
