Hussong's Cantina: An Ensenada Landmark
This is not really a nightclub - it is a straight-up old-school bar. It is one watering hole not to miss and is located in the tourist zone.
Hussong's is Baja's oldest bar still in use, established in 1892 by a German, Johan Hussong. It was first used as a stage coach stop and is now a historic landmark. Whether during the day or at night, you'll get a feeling of Old Mexico. Famous for it's original margaritas and sawdust-covered wood floors, the old cantina can put on a great party. Popular for the laid-back atmosphere and strolling mariachis, both Mexicans and tourists enjoy this cantina from another age.
Dress Code: Casual.
Papas & Beer: A favorite of the Cruise Ship Crowd.
If a cruise ship is in town, this place will be packed to the gills with tourists getting loaded at high noon. Cheap beer and tequila are what most are drinking - most who do until they pass out.
I had never visited when the place was as quiet on my most recent visit, and unfortunately, with no one in the place, the smell of last week's sticky alcohol on the floor was more than I had bargained for.
Unless you have a good buzz on, or are looking to chase some strange all while dealing with drunk college students or cruise shippers, I would opt for one of the many other clubs/bars in Ensenada.
HUSSONG'S CANTINA: THE ONE, THE ONLY, STAND UP, SIT DOWN, BAR
Hussong's Cantina. Mention that name and if you know it, a large smile will spread across your face. This is the birthplace of the Margarita Drink. Yep! Right here in Ensenada in 1941, the bartender made it for the daughter of the German Ambassador of Germany. Okay, you know the rest. Her name was Margarita. Many Margaritas have been served here since and it is still just a bar. I say that in all respect, as there are no flashy bar stools with girls dancing on top or loud trash music. Oh, there are peanut shells scattered on the floor and the five piece band starts up or the Mariachis stroll in thumbing their guitars and lipping the horn while you tip a tequila glass to the ceiling and yell "Ole!"
Hussong's Cantina may not look like a bar you are accoustomed to seeing for it is without any fanfare or fancy wording with neon lighting. There is neon but only to tell you Tecate Beer is here and the name Hussong's. But, it is a legend and one you should not miss. Go inside and slip into yesteryear. Belly up to the bar, Amigo!
Dress Code: Leave your weapons outside. No gunfire allowed. That was the rule in 1892 and it still stands today. Well, it was a tie your pony up, and come on in and sit down for a tequila or cerveza. Dress code, I don't think so. It's actually quite nice inside and no problems for the timid.

PAPAS & BEER: BEER GUZZLERS DREAM COME TRUE
The young and the young at heart, the beer drinker and the drunk, the party goer and the follower are all here at PAPAS & BEER in Ensenada. This bar hot spot is a tourist grabber. If you drove into town, the parking is crazy and if you came by cruise ship, many of your fellow passengers will be here. Why? To google and guzzle, of course.
Girl watchers, guy watchers, they all are here. Beer drinking, naw, beer gulping is more like it. Look out for the guy with the tank of beer and a hose. He's on the lookout for the beer guzzlers and there are plenty. Music loud, laughter loud, falling down is even loud. This is drunk heaven.
Dress Code: Casual dress and nothing new. lol You may spill a beer or two on yourself.

MANGO MANGO: WILD AND CRAZY DANCING IN THE STREET
MANGO MANGO. Just the name says this is something a little different. Food inside, drinks inside, dancing, and wild and crazy on the stage outside on the street. Standing across the street are hundreds of tourists on weekends or cruise day in port just watching with their mouths open and in awe.
The party folks, could be me or you, are standing right by the stage or inside eating and drinking, oh, okay, watching the dancing. When the weather is hot, the stage gets hot. Clothes come off to the thongs and shorts. Dancing on the street must bring out the wild side or maybe it could be just a drink too many. This is the place for true party goes. Ole!
Dress Code: A what? lol.

Hussong's Cantina: Hussong's Cantina
Hussongs Cantina in the tourist zone is Baja's oldest bar still in use, established in 1892 by a German named Johan Hussong, it was first used as a stage coach stop and is now a historic landmark. It’s also the place where the Margarita was invented back in October, 1941 by bartender Don Carlos Orozco.
While locals and long-time visitors hang at Hussong's, many of the tourists can be found at Papas & Beers. It's much more of a dance club than Hussong's but is is much tamer than its sister club in Rosarita.
Dress Code: Casual
Pappas & Beers: in the Day or Night...
If you never heard of Pappas&Beers, then you’ve never heard of Mexico. You will not be able to miss this place, there is always a party going on here. (at least on the weekends)
During the day, there is no cover charge and they open up the “right hand side” of the bar. This caters to the cruise ship crowd that reminded me of a frat party, whistles going off, shots being taken, and fake boobied women dancing on table with their shirts wet.
In my experience, in the night, this place actually calms somewhat down. Cover is about $4, and beers are $3. It is more like a regular discoteque, where many of the local youth also come to party and dance. They play an assortment of music and usually have a live band. It does get crowded, but it has very friendly atmosphere.
Dress Code: Dress up a little for the night, and leave the beer drenched mess that you may be for the daytime.

Hussongs Catina: Margarita Birthplace?
"It’s also the place where the Margarita was invented—back in October, 1941 by bartender Don Carlos Orozco" from www.bajamagic.com/storyshow/Hussongs.html
This is more of a typical pub set up that can get pretty crowded and loud at night. During the day, you can enjoy a cold beer with mariachis playing and watch American (States' side) sports.
Dress Code: whatever you want...
El Octopus & El Squid: A couple others
These are two of the larger discotheques in Ensenada, next to Papas of course. I have never been, but I know these may cater to the local youths more. So if you want a change of pace… check them out.
Dress Code: a little more dressy then beer drenched frat boy slobs.
Papas & Beer Manago Mango>: just a suggestion.
Good place to start is Hussongs, the oldest bar in Baja and they invented the margarita which so many women love and drink to tolerate our asses so we owe it to Mr. Hussong God rest his soul to pay a visit to his establishment! Papas and beer is a good place to go and party and possibly catch a cover band. if everything carries over and you are looking for a good place with a good dance floor to finish the night, Mango Mango always has a good environment and good music and a really nice dance floor. there is also El Octopus, its a pretty nice club but the crowd varies sometimes go on the wrong night and it will just be you and your friends. dont stick to one place in ensenada check them all out if you can make it!
Dress Code: Dress casual for Hussongs, anything goes at Papas & Beer, but dress smart and clean for Mango Mango and El Octopus (jeans, sneakers, no play!)

Papas & Beer: Papas & Beer
This place is packed with party crazy tourists Wednesday, Thursday, and (especially) Saturday when the cruise ships are in.
Note to the ladies...You may want to wear pants (not skirts, unless you want to show off that thong) since fun-loving waiters will turn people upside down while giving them tequila slammers...and place Papas and Beer bumper stickers on various body parts.
Dress Code: Casual
Papas Y Beer is the dance club...
Papas Y Beer is the dance club of choice and has a lot of drinks. Another good one is Senor Frog's. THere are a lot of places in this general area that both the locals and tourists jointly share. Anyone is good to go to.
Cheap drinks good live entertainment, two floors, very clean
Dress Code: casual to high end casual
Old time bar from the 1920s. Every celebrity and criminal that has visited Ensenada has been here. Toss one back where Alan Ladd and Dorthy Lamour had a drink!
Dress Code: Just about anything so long as it is clean.
El Pescador (Deny's Bar): Mexican Strip Club
well this is a typical mexican strip club and unlike strip clubs in the United States where it is just top stripping, lap dance and no touch policy, this club offers the full monty and touching is allowed and they say there are more extra service in the private rooms inside. basically most strip clubs here in ensenada they say are simply brothels without a bed. So for the promiscous tourist, this is the place to be besides the more popular Anthony's Bar.
Dress Code: The Dress Code is Smart Casual with no slippers or flip flops ok! Drinks are $2.25 for the guys and $4 / $5.50 (the $5.50 drinks usually mean your being taken for a ride). Bar fines are $25 and they is no cover charge. Bar opens at noon and dancers start 7:30pm until 3:00am everyday.

Mango Mango: Beware of Mango Mango: Bouncer wants to fight
If not everyone in your group is a drinker, they'll "kick your a$$es out". That is what the lady told some of my friends who weren't big drinkers and didn't want to spend $20 on a all you can drink wristband. When we agreed to leave if the people in our group got our $20 refund and paid for the drinks we did get, the over anxious bouncer poured a couple of our drinks into one plastic cup, mixing our drinks up, instead of the individual drinks into individual plastic cups we were given. We said that was not right and asked for a refund. Instead, the bouncer wanted to fight, so he got in the face of one of the girls who would not back down. Then he went after another friend who was talking to the guy in charge about what the bouncer did. In the end, we could do nothing and the manager had my friend dragged out and as I was the last one walking out, I was given a cheap shot in the back by one of the bouncers. Plenty of other bars to go to in town, not worth worrying about being beat up at this place in a foreign country. thought you all should know.
