The City
  • Tip Rating:
  • As long as you realize that the whole area caters the tourist... the whole place may be considered one. A "gringo" may pay $20 for something, who does not know how to barter, and a local may pay $5. That's just the way it is. You learn as you go... like any traveler. Whether you are walking down Ensenada or La Bufadora

Have fun bartering, or pay top dollar if you don't. I thought it was funny that my friend was bartering for a domino set with a 9 year old kid. Have fun!

Street Begging in the Tourist Zone
  • Tip Rating:
  • There have been several articles in the local papers pointing out that certain individuals are exploiting women and small children who you may see begging (especially in the tourist zone along Lopez Mateos).

It is important to note that these selfish individuals keep the money collected for themselves. Those who don't work for them are driven out of the area so as not to compete for handouts from compassionate tourists.

As an alternative to giving cash (which will be taken away from them), you can maybe offer to buy them a taco or something to drink at one of the street stands...or some groceries at the Gigante or Calimax on Gastelum.

Let's be generous to the less fortunate who suffer in this world...but not to those who would exploit them.

La Bufadora is a blowhole that spurts water up on a rock cliff. The walk to the Buffadora is along a gauntlet of shops featuring inauthentic stuff that is the same and roughly the same price you can get for stuff in little malls in LA. That $5 ring is the same $5 ring you can get from a stand in an LA mall. DO NOT EAT AT THE RESTAURANT ON THE HILL ABOVE LA BUFADORA!

Buy the mango on a stick it's tasty

Go farther south or go to Mainland Mexico.

    Tamales by the roadside
Tamales by the roadside are quite good - but I was told that the BEEF Tamale is actually dog meat... maybe Rabbit..... Urban legend???? I hope not!

la bufadora, or blow hole. about 19km out of south ensenada. natural ocean blow hole geyser thingy. pretty cool- like an upside down waterfall. parking is free if you are lucky. also good luck not buying things....its about half mile walk through vendors to the blow hole. but cool stuff to buy. the road to bufadora is real mexico! roadside stals with tamales, pickels, stuff like that. natural wilderness (desert kind of).

well no altenative.i think bifadora is kind cool.
