Tecate Things to Do

  • Shopping

Tecate isn't really the sort of place you go for site seeing, as there isn't that much to see. Tecate is more of a place to go for a shopping trip. That's what we did, and that's what most visitors do. There are stores and street vendors located almost everywhere in the downtown area near the train station. You can buy a variety of traditional...

  • Iglesia de Tecate

Tecate isn't the sort of place you go for site seeing. Aside from Parque Hidalgo, the town's only tourist attraction is the old church on the corner of Miguel Hidalgo y Castillo and Pdte Lazaro Cardenas, just down the road from Parque Hidalgo. Since the church is the town's only tourist attraction, most people who visit stop to see it. I would...

  • Go Wine tasting

From Tecate we took the Mexico #3 road and headed toward Ensenada. Along this road is called La Ruta del Vino. Along this road and in this area there are about 32 wineries. The best part is that wine tasting is free! I was so shocked when they told me this. We tasted alot of wines and they were pretty good. I bought a case to take back with...

  • Tecate Brewery

When I came here on a Sunday afternoon the Brewery was closed. I saw online that there are free tours available here and a beer garden. There is also a train ride that goes from San Diego to Tecate. Pacific Southwest Railway Museum does these tours. I didnt do this train ride but its an option to you in case you didnt want to drive into Mexico.Beer...

  • Don Benja - Master of the Pottery Arts

He's big, burly and as hospitable as your best friend. You pass his little shop on the left after about the third mile from Tecate on Highway 3. With the help of his daughters this family business thrives, in part due to its outstanding location. When I first walked up to Don Benja he was sitting in the open air, a small oven placed on his lap. With...

  • Where the locals go for a cold one

It's not fancy by any means, but the Diana Bar is the place to go for a drink or two or three. American's pour into this place like an obligation. There's not much to it. Just a bar, a bartender, a few picures on the wall, a jukebox, billiards, and a picture of a naked woman as the centerpiece. Everyone's a friend at the Diana Bar for locals and...

  • Best tacos in Tecate

Your classic open-wall Mexican taquiera. Plastic furniture, exceptionally friendly staff that speak a little English. The tacos here are the best in Tecate. Get your taco with flour or corn torillas, any of several meat filling. Their fried green onions are great, and for actual meat, their carne asada is quite good, and their adobada is AWESOME...

  • Best tortas in Tecate

First, you need to know what tortas are: take a Mexican bun (large, oval-shaped, and flat) which is sliced open. The inside surfaces are spread with mayonaise, and then put on a grill to brown. When the buns are golden, the cook takes chopped, seasoned beef and heaps it onto the bun. You can then add guacamole, cilantro, salsa, etc to it. El...

Tecate Warnings and Dangers

The worse experience of my life was because of Hotel Rosita Hotel in Tecate! My family stayed in a suite and i stayed in another one bed room. The family members in the Suite were entoxicated by gas. The laundry room is right down stairs and even though the people from the hotel were told about a weird smell they just provided an air freshner because there is no windows! later that night after 2 adults 2 teenagers anda 5 month old and 4 year old were entoxicated one of the teenagers was able to reach her cell since there was no phone in the room and called reception several times but there was no answer. the reception person was asleep i saw him in the sofa when the teen then called my cell and i went to the reception for the key to the suite. the ambulance was not able to get through because the entrance is not high enough for it to go in. No hotel staff helped at all. instead of a good night sleep we were at the hospital all night until late morning. i returned to the hotel to get my belogings and to take a shower but there was no hot water either. no money was returned either. I do not recomend it to anyone! It is a dangerous place and they have hazardouz chemicals in places where children can reach and get poisoned.
