Take an ATV tour to the old lighthouse
  • Tip Rating:
  • One of the most fun activities in Cabo is to rent an ATV and take a ride out to the old lighthouse. There are a couple of ways to do it:

    1. Rent an ATV by the hour and go yourself -- recommended only if you have some experience getting around Cabo and the outlying neighborhoods.

    2. Go on a tour with an established agency.

I went with option 2 the first time out, and after that I just rented them on my own. The beauty of just renting them on your own is that you can then ride them around town and check out places you normally wouldn't go or wouldn't want to take a taxi to, like Pedregal, etc.

Most people take a ride through the village and head on out to the Old Lighthouse. There are sand duns out there that you can ride on and it's a blast. Pack a sandwich and something to drink and have lunch at the beach, or watch the sunset.

    Beach Activities: Sunset Beach
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you can get to Sunset Beach on the Pacific Side for a day, I would recommend it. It is on the other side of the mountains on Cabo's west end. The beach is usually empty because you cannot swim there, which makes it great to lay out and relax. Walking the length of the beach is also recommended. There are rock formations and amazing homes on top of the mountains to look at.

Guests at the Pueblo Bonito Rose can get a free shuttle to the Pueblo Bonito at Sunset Beach which leaves once an hour. You will be dropped off at the resort and taken to the beach or pool. This resort is the only resort on the Pacific side of Cabo, and the resort itself is worth seeing.

    Other Towns: A calm alternative
  • Tip Rating:
  • On the eastern end of the tip of the Baja California peninsula, San José del Cabo offers a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. The city is small and the hotels are spread out. Deep-sea and 'panga' fishing to the teeming waters of the Sea of Cortez can be arranged. Other activities include whale watching and golf in the championship courses that are sprouting throughout the area. The marsh north of the city serves as a nesting area for many bird species during the 'wet' season. If the purpose of your vacation is to relax, you are much more likely to achieve your goal by staying in San Jose del Cabo than in Cabo San Lucas. Cabo San Lucas tends to survive at a more frenzied pace than San Jose del Cabo and is certainly worth a visit for those staying in San Jose del Cabo. The restaurants and nightlife in Cabo San Lucas are world class. But for a casual pace with a nice flavor of real Mexico San Jose del Cabo is hard to beat!

Tours: A great adventure awaits!! You...
  • Tip Rating:
  • A great adventure awaits!! You can take an ATV tour to Candalaria. It is a small village in the middle of the desert. They take you through the town and tell you all about the history and then you go to this beautiful beach and have lunch. It is an all day tour but worth it!!

Other Towns: Do Visit San Jose del Cabo
  • Tip Rating:
  • Do stop in San Jose del Cabo, you'll find a pleasant city of meandering streets and lush palm groves with a relaxing atmoshphere. The area was first visited by Cortes himself in 1535. But it was the missionaries not the conquistadors that first brought European civilization to San Jose. A Jesuit mission was built in 1730 to indoctrinate the Percu Indians of the region. In the nineteenth century San Jose slowly evolved into a modest center of commerce for passing ships. Today it is a town of 30,000 people that has a handsome Municipal Palace, charming courtyard restaurants, shops, boutiques, and a lovely tropical estuary.

Shopping there is not as frenetic as it is in Cabo San Lucas. I think the prices were better on the silver and other jewelry. I bought a Mexican Fire Opal bracelet and ring. At first I thought I was getting ripped off, not knowing that they really do have opals in Mexico. They also have amber if you like that stone (petrified sap).

San Jose del Cabo is located north up the coast and from Cabo and is on the way to the airport.

    Arts & Crafts: Great glassware
  • Tip Rating:
  • Just outside of Cabo are several glass factories. We really like the smaller family run factory and try to support them by buying several pieces each year. The tour busses all go to the bigger factory.

    Beach Activities: Star-gaze
  • Tip Rating:
  • Most people hit the beaches during the day. At night, it's mostly empty--grab a beach chair and drink, and watch the stars. Temperatures are in the 70s at night (in September), and it feels great.

    Beach Activities: RIDING THE BAY
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you desire something faster than a sailboat, then the waverunner is for you. These motorcycles on water can really zip along the water and can create fun or havoc if you jump a wave.

Beach Activities: HIGH IN THE SKY
  • Tip Rating:
  • Whoa. This is even better than wave running. I mean, to be up in the sky being pulled by a speed boat across the bay is a thrill and when you say higher, up you go another 20-30 feet, till you are high in the sky. High on the thrill for sure.

    Other Towns: La Paz...
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the capital city of Los Cabos, but is not even worth a visit. The beach in the city isn't nice and the good ones are too far out of town. I don't think I saw more then 50 people that day we went there. I saw La Paz as a big ghost city...
