    NO Swimming Allowed

Even though the resorts in Los Cabos are located on the Pacific Ocean you can NOT swim there. The riptides are much to strong and dangerous. There are some resorts on the bay that you can swim in as well as a town beach. We drove up to Todos Santos and did some surfing up there. You need to ask locals for directions to the surfing beaches. They are not marked and you need to find the right dirt road that leads to the beaches.

Don't swim in the Pacific Ocean!! Last year I stayed at the Marriott and witnessed 2 people being saved from drowning. I was at the Hilton this week and on 8/15/07 witnessed a man being pulled from the water. Despite being worked on by 2 doctors for over 30 minutes, he was pronounced dead. In spite of this, people went into the water even as the dead body was still on the shore!! People are SO stupid to think they can beat the strong currents and waves.

Althought the ocean looks inviting, you should not attempt to go in. There are large swells and the waves are dangerous. There are no lifegurds to rescue you if you get into trouble. Swimming only on the Sea of Cortez is recommended.

The under tow can be very dangerous

Many of the beaches in Cabo are not swimmable. There is a strong under tow that has caused many accidents and deaths in the past few years. The condo that we stayed at was beautiful and on the ocean. The downside, the beach wasnt swimmable. Yes some people went in but i wouldnt recommend it for the children. The beaches by the "Office" and in that area are ok to swim at. Just be careful.

    Pacific Ocean...Land's End

Be sure that when you go to Lover's Beach, only swim there and not on the other side. It is very rough and you are not allowed to swim there because it is very dangerous and if you were to go swimming there, you most likely wouldn't come back.

    Watch out for Jellyfish!

The first day we got to Cabo and went swimming, my sister got stung by a jellyfish and it really stings. The next day, I got stung and within the next 2 weeks, my sister had gotten stung about 5 or 6 times. There are some flags that are put up right when you are going to the beach which tell you if it is safe to swim or not. If you do get stung, just go to first aid and there they will put some lemon juice and some cream on it and a band aid as well. It will go away in a bit.

    Tequila guy on Medano Beach...

Think about that Tequila can be very strong and when you are not frequent drinker you can be really sick of it.

More dangerous is the Pacific Ocean on Lovers Beach. Be careful to swim in here. This place is more for surfers then for swimmers...

  • Don't Swim on the Pacific Side

    Don't Swim Here!!!

Please do not swim at the Pacific Ocean beaches in Cabo. People drown there every year and many others still do not listen to warnings. The undertow is terrible, and the waves can throw you against the rocks. The Mexican authorities do not like pulling bodies from the water. If you go to a beach on the Pacific side, lay in the sun or check out the rock formations, even if you are an experienced swimmer.

The beaches on the Sea of Cortez side are very safe most of the time and beach conditions are posted at most hotels.
