DEC 2012 UPDATE: This restaurant is now a Tourist Curio Shop.
Being at the far end of town, I think they were not getting sufficient traffic, and have changed to a business where at least there isn't the problem of wasted food!
UPDATE: March 2012 - Buzzard's has moved out of Los Barriles proper, down the highway to the new area of "Missiones" in Buena Vista, about 1.5 miles south.
SEE NEW PHOTOS, and see their website with lots of photos and info

Favorite Dish: At the new location, I had the PORTOBELLO BURGER which was good; but is mis-named, because it is just a sandwich on a burger bun (NO burger there!)
They DO make a really good BURGER, served with separate condiments to build your own.
Here are current specials: Check out the latest SMOKIN’ SPECIAL at BUZZARDS BAY CANTINA. Now you can get an awesome Buzzards Chicken Sandwich with papa’s and an ICE COLD cerveza for a mere 80 pesos. Upgrade to our lip smackin’ spiced potato wedges, succulent onion rings or Zippin’ Zucchini medallions for 5 pesos more. BETTER YET, upgrade for FREE during Happy Hour!
Always the COLDEST BEER and BEST BURGERS IN BAJA!
The American who originally owned this restaurant died last year, and now the ITALIAN people who ran the Pizza place up on the highway (see Tip) have taken this over. Now their wonderful Pizzas are available here. Therefore, with the Italian ownership now there is more emphasis on pastas and other fine European fare, as well as a salad bar.
***UPDATE Dec2012 in our local Internet News: OTRA VEZ Restaurant is happy to announce that we upgraded the level by offering from now on daily handmade fresh pasta as Linguine and Pappardelle (knife cut as in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMszF-W9-3Q) to be served with our own Bolognese sauce or Mare e Monti new recipe. Also we prepare hand made Ravioli, in different forms with 4 different fillings: meat+sausage, ricotta+spinach, fish/grouper+spinach, lobster, and each kind has a special sauce... to die for!
Just completed at end of 2009 is a new Italian oven/BBQ area outside, which is used for their fabulous thin-crust REAL Italian Pizzas!
Often they will have musical entertainment, too. Full bar.
CLAUDIA, the owner, is there every evening to make sure you have a perfect experience!
Favorite Dish: The CAPRICCIOSA Pizza; only US$9.00, more tha enough for the 2 of us.
This is the restaurant attached to our town's anchor hotel, LAS PALMAS.
The food is upscale, but then, so are the prices. If you are staying in the resort, you have your own menu, which is cheaper!! But then, they give a discount to us locals, but to us locals, it is still expensive for a little Mexican town--but if you are on holiday.......then, it's probably more like your hometown restaurants!! (I hope you can follow that!)
The service is very attentive and they aim to please and we locals like to go here particulary in summer because it is AIR-CONDITIONED, whereas, most other places are not.
Favorite Dish: They will cook the freshly caught fish to your liking!
They do fancier dishes with local mangos and coconut; but I particularly like their Garlic Shrimp/Prawns.
you can see the menu at website noted below.
UPDATING as of OCT 2011: The new owner/chef is European, and the cuisine here now is mainly GREEK! but also authentic Italian pizzas! The owner also has another restaurant in San Jose' del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, so he is knowledgeable about our area as well as good restaurant business.
We have tried it three times and heard others report and all confirm that the place is great, with fresh seafood dishes as well.
Good wine list.
Both inside, small, with view of kitchen (European style) and outside (with a view to the Sea) seating.
Many varieties of pizza and delivered hot to the table in about 10 minutes!
Favorite Dish: oooh, had fabulous freshly-made hummus as complimentary appetizer; DIVINE with hot fresh bread; both Spanakopita and Gyros are delicioso! (both our visits were at lunch; not yet experienced their dinners, but reports are good)
Our favorite (thin crust) pizza is the CAPRICIOSSA.
It is brightly painted, but best of all, faces right onto the Sea of Cortez. I have only eaten here for breakfast, but have heard that it is good for all meals. Most breakfast choices are STILL only US$5.00!!, and plenty on the plate.
Favorite Dish: I really like both the Machaca and the Chilaquiles; very tasty and great frijoles refritos.
My husband's favorite is their Huevos Ranchos; he says about the best in the area!
Newly opened last year in the new 'Plaza Gaviotas' near the top of town.
American breakfast-type sandwiches (w/eggs, etc.) available, as well as deli-type luncheon sandwiches, with selection of potato salad or others, and a great selection of SMOOTHIES and ICED COFFEES!
A quick bite, American-style, on the go, near the banks and other new shops.
WIFI hook-up available.
OPEN: Mon-Fri from 7:30am/4:00pm
Sat from 8am/3pm
Favorite Dish: Newly offered, at end of January 2010:
Now offering fresh PANE COI-SANTI bread from EL TRIUNFO!!!
Stop and enjoy the best coffee in town with one of our new dessert!!
Don´t forget to try the different BEGGETS, CROISSANTS OR BREAKFAST SANDWITH and SALADS.
UPDATED; UNFORTUNATELY THIS RESTAURANT HAS CLOSED, late 2009.
Full menu of great Mexican food and some American touches such as various cold cofees. Owned and run by one of the oldest families in the town. Recently upgraded facilities such as WiFi, TV. Nice touches of local arts around, brightly painted. Waiters speak good English for those who need it.
Favorite Dish: From Fri-Mon, they have their special Chillies Rellenos; either queso (cheese) or marisco (seafood) and they are NOT greasy; light and delectable!
'TIO's' is the anchor of the town, having been the first restaurant here; owned by a long-time American traveller to the area. It is well situated on the corner across the road from the Palmas de Cortez Resort. Paul caters to the Gringos who are missing some regular American food, be it burgers, pizza Am style, or various seafoods; AND he does it just like back home!
But he also has a full menu of Mexican fare, and that too is delicious!
There is a separate bar area, TVs in the main restuarant, outside covered seating, and outside garden seating. Also, Fridays are Karaoke Nights!
This is the meeting place, for many years, of the local ladies who like to play card games or Mah Jong; so on off-hours of the afternoon you can often find a couple tables going.
Inside is specially decorated with hand painted fun scenes and sagas! Definitely have a look at the WEBSITE Open 365 days a year; with special Thanksgiving and Christmas menus at very reasonable prices.WIFI available too.
Favorite Dish: The Prime Rib is wonderful; favorite Mexican dish is the rolled, deep fried taco plate, with guacamole, rice, beans and salad.
Located on a side dirt road near the top of a hillside in Los Barriles Caleb's serves a wonderful mix of Mexican and American dishes. The best however is the fresh baked goods. Cookies and breads are baked daily. The nut bread was incredible as were the variety of cookies. The oatmeal raisin were the best I've had in years.
Favorite Dish: Hard to say as everything was excellent. I had an omelette with peppers and mushrooms that was done to perfection.
Just opened this year, most seating is outside, with a street view. Combined in same building with the Smokehouse, where you can buy or get your own fish smoked to take back to the States.
Favorite Dish: They serve seveal variations of burgers with great fries, very inexpensive.
The ambience is different from others in town, because it has a high second story with wide views out to the Sea. In addition to wonderful regular Mexican menu, caters to American tastes both in breakfast and lunch dishes. Fresh baked breads and bakery items such as muffins and COOKIES!
Not open for dinner; closed Sundays and Mondays.
Favorite Dish: Many varieties of omelets, all of which are wonderful! also pancakes and waffles.
Ever since Maria opened her own restaurant a couple yrs ago, it has been a local favorite because of the wonderful food and pleasant atmosphere. She has just recently expanded her space, and also added a Sunday Breakfast Buffet at US$10/pp, which is good value if you are a big eater. Bright Mexican garden setting.
Favorite Dish: Her Tortilla soup is the best in the area, and the Menudo is also excellent!
As we live here, this is our favorite local place to go for a pleasant outdoor dinner. The restaurant is under Palapa and has a view out to the Sea of Cortes. JOSE', the owner, and his wife are very personable and will even assist you with your Spanish, if you need it!
All the food is well-priced and very fresh and cooked to order, including home-made Totopos (chips) and salsas. They have good cold beer, but you can also bring your own wines or other drinks, at NO charge.
Favorite Dish: Either the Shrimp platter or the Scallops, cooked as you like; say, con AJO (garlic). OR, off the menu, but the same good price, you can mix the 2 and have a combination shrimp and scallop with garlic.
Many other items, including meats, or vegetarian; all excellent and well-priced.
Opened just a couple years ago, Taco Viejo has become THE most popular place in town for breakfast or lunch (closes at 3pm), because of the good food and comfy, local atmosphere. Both Gringos and Mexicans eat here.
Favorite Dish: The battered fish tacos are like the fish you used to get in London/UK/Australia when ordering 'Fish & Chips', and more than can fit in the tortilla! Your selection of about 15 side dishes to fill the taco; only 15 pesos each. MUY BUENO!
