Off the beaten path, not in a town, this restaurant is all by itself, on the road south of La Paz to Los Barriles, San Jose', etc., on the Sea of Cortez side of the peninsula. They serve wonderful down-home, ranch-style Mexican food that is delicious and very well-priced.
It is bright and airy.
Favorite Dish: MACHACA for breakfast!! Big portions.
Art & Beer is a low-key but zany and character-filled little bar and restaurant off of the highway between Los Cabos and Todos Santos. It's the kind of place you intend to drop by and end up staying for hours. There's a constant stream of tourists and arty locals from Todos Santos drifting in to partake of booze and lip-smackin' seafood. An eclectic range of local art is sold here, too. Be warned: Don't just drop in to gawk or to say hola. The guy who runs the place (pictured here) will chase you out if you don't buy anything, and you don't wanna mess with him! But if you're here to participate (i.e., eat, drink, pay!), then you are treated as a good friend.
In La Paz, there are many places to eat FISH TACOS! That is by far the best food down there, besides the homemade tortillas that a woman made for me at her "ranch". She lived in a town of 11 people, and her goats wouldn't stop eating my clothes!
Favorite Dish: FISH TACOS! are so good because the entire city is surrounded by ocean and that is how many, if not most, locals make their living.
You can get a good breakfast at a reasonable price at the Casino Real. You can also watch sporting events on their bank of TVs (not my idea of a fun thing to do on vacation though...).
In the evening ask for Geronimo or Juan at the bar. Their margaritas are the best!
We found a free public parking lot behind the restaurant, the only free parking we found in Cabo San Lucas.
