Unfortunately in contradiction to what the tour guides say this hotel has no connection to the Eagles album by that name. Nonetheless this picturesque hotel has managed to become a major tourist attraction.

    Internet Cafe

by Bunnylbj Written Jul 10, 2005

Located in the back of a stunning cactus garden is an internet cafe. I believe the outdoor patio restaurant that is also located in the cactus garden is called Cafe Listo. The internet cafe sells coffees and beers and other alcoholic drinks and the rate is approximatly 1 peso a minute (I think!!!) at any rate, it is very inexpensive to be online. You can also bring your own computer to plug in. The connection is relatively slow depending on the computer you get stuck with so it's best to bring your own.

    Hang Ten

Amanda and I bought our husbands surfboard for Christmas and it was a big hit. Here is Harry (my husband) with the new boards. One thing that was a major pain, however, was trying to ship the board back. We ended up checking it as luggage. When we turned up in Nashville, TN to visit some other friends, we got some strange looks!

    Friendly game of beach bocce

We found out right away that beach bocce ball is something that the locals all do here. It's fun and a great way to meet people! Fridays were Boccee down at the beach and people would bring food and drinks and basically hang out and play boccee

Our pals Mike and Amanda, card sharks!

Our dear friends Mike and Amanda made the stay in Todos Santos so much fun. We spent hours and hours playing a card game called shanghai outside on our patio deck. Whenever I get depressed, I think back to that time - it's really my "happy place."

    La Pastora

If you love walking on the beach, Todos Santos is your place. Miles and miles of beautiful sand await. People drive straight on to the beach (a no-no in Florida) and unload their chairs, coolers, surfboards, kites, etc and spend the day at the beach. It's a great way to spend an afternoon!

    Yoga

by Bunnylbj Updated Jul 10, 2005

Todos Santos has a big ex-patriate community. A lot people like to gather at a place called La Arca to do yoga in the mornngs. I highly recommend these classes! They are perfect for any level, open to the public, and they are very cheap, around 30 pesos or something ridiculous! They are led by a few different women, all of whom are very good. It's a good way to meet the locals and find out what's happening or who's throwing a patry!

    Todos Santos

Todos Santos is a small, picturesque town. There is alot of money being spent here by Americans who have settled here and by the many tourists who pass through.

The shops and restaurants are impeccably maintained with colourful paint and beautiful blooms.

Art and Crafts in Todos Santos

    Todos Santos street scene

Todos Santos is known as home to many talented painters, sculptors, artisans and intellectuals. There is also a very large number of foreigners, mostly Americans living here. Because of this influence, you will find many fine art galleries here and crafts for sale, as well as excellent restaurants and even a theatre.

    Punta Lobos

    Punta Lobos

There are many fine beaches near Todos Santos, however, they are difficult to access without a vehicle. It is too far to walk, and the roads are too rough for a bicycle. A new golf course is under construction now, so perhaps once that is complete there will be a new road for access to it and the beaches.

The beaches here are known for surfing. At Punta Lobos, you can watch the fishermen come in in the afternoon and perhaps buy some fresh fish off of them. There is also a hill to the south with a barely discernible walking path. If you can find the path, follow it up the hill and around for some great views of the ocean. You can also see whales passing by in the months of Jan thru March.

    Todos Santos Mission

The exterior of this mission is nothing to write home about, but it was the one mission that I visited in Baja in which the front doors were always open and the interior looked warm and inviting. It was founded in 1733.

    Urban Legend

by austinmax Written Feb 2, 2004

Sometime in the mid to late 1980's, the word got out that Todos Santos was home to "the" Hotel California made famous by the Eagles' song in the 1970's.A man in town claims to have started the rumor that became legend, in the early 80's - and for purely selfish reasons. He says the town was so unknown, so lacking in tourists or business that he felt compelled to do something to stir things up. He was in the real estate business and there weren't any buyers around to sell to. So he says he dreamed the "Eagles" thing up right out of thin air. There weren't many takers for an urban legend either, but by the time the hotel's ex-manager signed his 10-year lease in the late 80's, the legend had begun to grow. And this opportunistic manager had no qualms about furthering its reach. He told anyone who would listen that this indeed was the HOTEL CALIFORNIA. That the Eagles had stayed there. That Don Henley had written the song right here, while renting a room for $2/night, sleeping in a hammock. And to further the effect, he blared the song over his barroom stereo into the streets. The urban legend, true or not, lives on. Tourists make day trips from Cabo San Lucas. They believe what they want to believe. They buy t-shirts and postcards of the hotel and sit in the restaurant across the street, zoning out on the facade of the remodeled building, reminiscing on their lost youth. They cross the street to stand under the newly repainted arches and have their photo taken at "the" Hotel California, in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
