Lagunas Montebello

A perfect end for a perfect day. Sit back and relax while admiring the sunset. It was out of this world. One of the best sunsets I’ve seen in a while. Its gets quite after sunset, when all the day tourists exit the park.

La Gruta

I hiked for 30 minutes to see "la Gruta". It's worth the effort. The Grutas lie about 50 meters ahead of the natural bridge tunnel. I found 3 entrances and an extra one from an opening in the roof, which allowed light to creep in inside the cave.

Natural Bridge

En route to "la Gruta," one can see a natural bridge in the river. There is an interesting formation inside that resembles a person.

Hotels

Cabañas: Cabañas

Cabañas: Cabañas, Lagunas de Montebello

darthmilmo Says:  For those with a more clean setting in mind, there are cabins in the lagoon that ran for about $5 USD per bed. Check them out. They shouldn't be hard to find once you reach the Lagunas de Montebello.

Laguna Azul: Best Camping in Mexico

darthmilmo Says:  What better way to spend the night then in your own tent? I set my tent up right at the shore of the Laguna Bosque Azul. It's beautiful! No one was there, except this lady who takes care of a small taco stall during the day (closes up early so if you're hungry at dinner time...

There is a restaurant and a taco stall near the Laguna Bosque Azul. Both establishments are closed early in the afternoon so get there early. I liked the tacos sold by a lady just outside Laguna Bosque Azul.

Lagunas Montebello

There are several buses leaving from San Cristobal de las Casas and going to Comitan, the access point to Lagunas Montebello. From Comitan, you can take a collectivo to the Lagunas Montebello.

What to Pack

Bicycle

Miscellaneous: Lagunas spred on a quite big area. It is hard to visit them without any means of transportation. Car is not the best option. You wouldn't be able to nejoy beautiful nature. My advice would be to bring along a bike. Not only you wont have problems to visit all lakes, you will be able to drive on some paths through pine-woods that connect lakes and be even more in contact with nature.
