San Juan Chamula located 6km from the village of Zinacantan and at 10km from the colonial city of San Cristobal de las Casas in the highlands of the State of Chiapas at 2.200m above sea level.
If you drive during 10km from the city of San Cristobal de las Casas on the highway towards the village of San Andres Larrainzar you will reach San Juan Chamula.

Favorite thing: San Juan Chamula is a unique Mayan municipality and township in Chiapas, with over 50,000 inhabitants which has unique autonomous status within Mexico. No outside police or military are allowed in the village. Chamulas have their own police force. Chamula has its own laws and its own customs.
A popular tourist destination, it is famous for its market and for its Church of San Juan. I spent there half a day in January of 2011.
