Bring good shoes for climbing the pyramid by Maria_75 When you are going to go walking in the warm, humid jungle it's important to have clothes that lets you breathe. It's also good to have clothes with light colors or you will be quite warm. Remember to bring some good shoes. Most of the ruins are quite steep, and they can also be slippery from the humidity. An old aqueduct, but bring your own water by Maria_75 Bring lots of water! It can get very warm, especially when you are walking around the whole day. It's also quite humid so you are going to sweat a lot. Be sure to drink plenty of water when you go there. You can buy water at the entrance and at the exit, but it's much more expencive than in town. Leave a Comment

by shdw100 My favorite thing about Palenque is just walking through history. The feel of the city, with the howler monkeys in the background, gives you a glimpse of what Mayan life would have been like. The buildings are in pristine shape considering how old they are. It was quite a surreal experience.
We just climbed to the top of the Temple of the Sun and found a small place to sit down on the side of the building. Then I just took it all in: the buildings, the jungle, the howler monkeys baying the the background. It was a good chance to sit and reflect on who lived here, what did they do, where did they live, how many people lived here, and millions of other thoughts. The site truly mesmerized me like no other ruin site has! Leave a Comment

by shdw100 There is a river that runs right through the heart of the site, but it was dried up when we were there. I would recommend taking the time to walk along the river bed and just explore. There is fabulous foliage from the jungle all about you, plus you can look up and see the various buildings that line the river. It's awesome! Leave a Comment

Ticket for three to Agua Azul by Blitzaka If you want to travel through all Chiapas take Palenque as a ''base camp'' at least for three days. From Palenque city you can take a tour to Bonampak and Yaxchilan. This tour will take you all day, from 6 am to 8 pm. $400- $450 for the tour. Also you can take a tour to Agua Azul waterfalls and Misol-Ha waterfall which will take you at least 6 hours. $90 - $100 for the tour. Another day for Palenque ruins and Palenque city. There are many insects in the jungle by Maria_75 If you are going to the ruins in Palenque there are a few things you should bring. For example plenty of strong mosquito repellent. You are in the middle of the jungle so there are plenty of insects there. Leave a Comment

The sun can be quite strong by Maria_75 The sun is quite strong so put on some sunlotion. There is plenty of shade around the site, but you will still be spending some time in the sun so a sunlotion can be quite handy. Leave a Comment

It's in the pyramid with the hay covering by SumTingWong Recently, the mummy/body of a prince was found in one of the pyramids of Palenque. On the skeleton there were many pieces of jade, and the symbols around the toumb appear like the prince is driving a spaceship. Unfortunately, you can't go inside the pyramid to see the tomb, but it's really info cool all the same!! Leave a Comment

If you are staying overnight in Palenque, make it a point to get up early and get to the site right as it opens. Not only will it not be as crowded, but because of its high altitude and weather, you will be treated to seeing the morning mist rise through and around the ruins. It is something you will not soon forget!

Internet Infinitum – While there are several Internet cafes in town, few offer additional services. I needed to find a place that could download photos from my camera’s memory card and burn it to a disc so I could continue taking photos (yes, I take a lot of photos). On the main street (Juarez) between Aldama and Abasolo on the north side of the street Internet Infinitum is tucked down a hallway (there are signs on the street). I was able to have them download my photos from my memory card and burn them to a CD for just 35 $MX. Without asking, the young man showed me the CD contents to prove that all the photos burned properly. Internet access costs 5 $MX per hour. The place was also air-conditioned, which was a pleasant relief while dealing with business. Leave a Comment
