What's really remarkable though is the use of indigenous lost grains and beans that can't be found anywhere else. In fact, this sort of experience is what I look for when traveling abroad, particularly within Latin America which has contributed more than it's share of the world's crops. But, with the scientific reduction of varieties grown, many of the local farmers are losing touch with the wealth of flavors and textures available from the less "succesful" varieties of corn, legumes, squashes, and so on. In the front of the restaurant is a store that sells cookbooks, organic coffee beans, raw chocolates, and other interesting things related to saving the indigenous cultures of Chaipas. The restaurant and store raise funds for projects for indigenous women and organic agriculture. Be sure to check out the dessert list, as I recall flans, fruit torts/pies, and other great items on the list. On the night that we visited, the live music either wasn't playing or we didn't want to wait around for it to start, but this place has a reputation for that too.
I had some form of enchilada as I recall, but what makes the meal great are the baked breads, fresh tortillas, and it seems to me that we had a desert desert. The final cup of coffee is outstanding. In this place I had one of the best breakfasts of my whole trip. I had arrived at 7 a.m. after spending the night on the bus from Oaxaca. Brought my bag to my hotel room, it was cold and misty and I was hungry. Then I got this huge breakfast in the Cafetería del Centro, with eggs and tortillas and frijoles, with toast and jam, fruit and juice and a lot of coffee. I got bright outside, I watched the streets come alive, a lot of Mexicans having their breakfast here as well, and it didn’t take long for me to love San Cris :-) Leave a Comment Theme: LocalDirections: They have two branches, both located in Real de Guadeloupe. I had breakfast at both, same menu, same good service, same tasty food.

A nice restaurant that was on our Christmas eat & drink tour as well. Lovely interior with pictures of Paris all over the walls. We had crepe which was okay, I’ve eaten better ones in my life… Leave a Comment Theme: MexicanAddress: Madero or Real de Guadeloupe, not sure.

It was here in this restaurant where we started our Christmas Eve Tour of San Cristóbal's restaurants and bars and streets :-) With some beers and Tacos, in a plain but nice restaurant with friendly staff. It was still very busy outside in the street, everybody in good spirit, feeling great coz it was Christmas. Leave a Comment Theme: MexicanAddress: 20 de Noviembre, close to cathedral

the owner is from the southern province Canton in China. He opened this restaurant five years ago and cooks the most authentic Asian dishes I've tasted. Being from Hong Kong myself, I of course simply LOVED the taste of home although the interior decor could frankly be improved. This restaurant is across the street from the artesan market.
The fried rice is amazing; I prefer it over the noodle dishes. You can't go wrong with the shrimp dishes and beef stir fried either. An entree costs about USD 5-7. Leave a Comment Theme: Chinese/Dim SumPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about average
