VIPS is a chain of restaurants owned by Walmart in Mexico. You can find one of these mostly anywhere, and they just opened their first restaurant in Tapachula.
The kind of food you'll eat here is pretty regular: typical breakfasts (eggs, pancakes, juice, coffee), Mexican dishes, salads, sandwiches, cakes & ice creams... pretty much "cafeteria style". You can have a good meal for around 10 US dollars ($100 Mexican pesos) or just sit and drink coffee for hours while you chat with your friends.
I recommend it not because I love their food, but because there aren't so many places to have a good meal in Tapachula anyway! This is one of the nicest places you can find, so now you know about it! Mind you: you will NOT find typical food from Chiapas here, just "regular" one...
Favorite Dish: I love their dessert called Peach Melba, which is a big cup of ice cream with syrup, chantilly and a half of a peach -- yummy!!!
Los Jarrones is one of the "nicest" restaurants they have in Tapachula. You don't have to dress elegantly or anything, but it's a good place to have a meal any time of the day. I visited it once for breakfast and they even had a nice buffet, with pre-made dishes and also especific things they could cook for you in that very moment. Good food and not expensive.
Then I visited it at night and they had candles on the tables and live (soft) music, which gave a very nice ambientation to the place. The service was fast and the food good again.
This is a Central American chain of restaurants - widely spread in Central America, Mexico and now USA - which specialty are chicken dishes cooked similar to Kentucky's style (for those of you who are more familiar with this American franchise).
I must confess I was surprised to find out that the food here is pretty affordable and VERY TASTY! The chicken they use is of good quality, the place is very family oriented and the service is OK. Plus, the prices are quite low. There's no Kentucky Friend Chicken restaurants in Tapachula, but if there were, I would definitely choose Campero instead! You should try it!
Favorite Dish: The "Camperitos", which are a sort of chicken nuggets... they serve them with BBQ or mustard sauce, french fries and cabbage salad... they're really yummy!!! I also recommend the milk shakes. Oh, extra tip: the mashed potatoes (with gravy) are just GREAT!!!
