Getting there is no problem. La Paz has got an airport, a sea port and is located along Route 1 that continues south to Los Cabos and north, well up to Alaska if you want.
If you want to take the ferry and want to bring your car, make sure you got all the papers and make reservation in advance. Nobody really knows what papers you need though and so I had to drive like 3 times back and forth between the port and the city office.
No problem to get around. You can walk basically the entire town. Only if you want to take the ferry to mainland you have to take either a public bus or a taxi.

Fondest memory: The fondest memory I have of La Paz was certainly the ferry boat ride to Topolobampo on the Mexican mainland. The sail was very nice and we had a beautiful night. I was sleeping on the deck and had a nice sea breezing cooling me from the terribly hot night. (Check my web page for a more informative story about that trip - www.zacarias.com?latinamericaroadtrip)
