I enjoyed truly the blue water the sandy beaches, and the sparkling sun. For those who want to enjoy a water sport such as banana boat, jet ski, surfing, boating, etc there are a lot of offers for diversion.

There are a lot of things that you can do here, but the best one is relax in the beach, the sand is great, and you can lay easily on it. If you're more active you can walk(or run) in the beach, you can swim in the pool or in the sea. The beast beaches are located in Santiago or Salagua, there are a lot of restaurants with "Palapas" in the beach, where you can enjoy seafood and the beautyfull landscape. Leave a Comment

If you travel to Manzanillo it's for sure that your main, if not your only, interest is swimming and relaxing in the mexican beaches, the sea is also the major attraction in the city.
Manzanillo's geography is shaped by two bays, Manzanillo's bay and Santiago's bay, the city is in the first one, the best beaches are on the second one. All around Santiago's bay there used to be several towns like Salagua (the pace discovered by Sandoval), Santiago, Miramar, La Querencia and San Rafael, most of them are considered part of Manzanillo's metropolitan area, many of them also appear as independent destinations on VT.
Manzanillo's beaches are some of the cleanest in Mexico's touristic coasts, and they are also very safe, none of the beaches is located in open sea, and any are in coves so they are small and easy to cover in a few minutes. Considering this I would say that Manzanillo' is ideal for family vacations.
Every beach in Mexico is property of the nation, meaning there are not private beaches, you'll probably spend most of your tie in the beach near your hotel, but if you want to visit another one no one can forbid it to you, in Manzanillo no one has tried to ilegally privatize a beach like it has happened in Acapulco, but you should always remember this just in case. Every beach should have one or two public entrances, I am sure "La Audiencia" gots them.
The bech in my photos is caled La Audiencia, Las Hadas beach, in wich "10" was filmed is close by and it is called like that because the sea was used as a cementery in prehispanic times, this produced ignis fatuus that looked like fairies (hadas in spanish), I doubt you can still see them. In Miramar beach there is a market selling handcraft and other souvenirs.
The sea is calmed unlees a hurricane has just striked or passed near by, but in this case you might want to pospone your vacations as you won't be able to enjoy our sun. Leave a Comment Directions: All around Santiago's bay and in some plaves in Manzanillo's bay.

Like I have said, apparto from the beaches there is not much to do in Manzanillo, as some tourists do we decided to spend a morning visiting the city to know something else beside the sea. As it usually happens in touristic plaves the taxi driver tried to be helpful and gave us a quick information about the zone, this is the main square and in that street you'll find some shops, he said and that is all there is.
The main square is well taken care of, and it is center you'll see the famous sailfish statue designed by the sculptor Sebastian (around 2003 I think) and that has became the symbol of the city. Appart from the statue there is also a much smaller and usually unoticed statue, it is Snoopy dressed as a fisherman, the statue remembers the annual fishing contest held in the city, and also honors Saint Paul, Minnesota birthplace of Charles M. Schulz and twinned with Manzanillo.
The square is also surrounded by some restaurants and the main street in front of it is full with shops in wich you may buy souvenirs, if you walk away from the main square you won't find much of interest unless you wanna see where does the average urban mexican lives.
Your other shopping option is "Plaza Manzanillo", a mall wich we also visited and wich is full with locals, we were probably the only tourists in there, I would say there are only two or three shops in wich you might find souvenirs, but it is a shopping place thinked for the Manzanillo unhabitants so again you may visit it if you wanna get in touch with the routine of the Manzanillo's people.
The city do offers an archeology museum managed by the Colima University, but I couldn't visit it as it was being redesigned when I was in the city, when I visit Manzanillo again I'll take a look and I'll tell you about it. Leave a Comment

Manzanillo has two large bays separated by the peninsula of Santiago. Both Manzanillo bay, closest to downtown Manzanillo, and Santiago bay have sandy beaches stretching along the entire front of the bay. The beaches at Manzanillo bay drop off into the ocean more quickly than at Santiago bay and the wave action seems stronger. Appart from the beaches Manzanillo also has a lot of viewpoints, I have lost the information I gathered before my trip so I'm not certain about the number, but I think there are at least ten to choose from. I visited the one in the Santiago penisula, very close to my hotel. I'm not certain how it is called, but it is probably "La Cima". If somebody knows for sure please let me know.
This viewpoint is the highest point in the peninsula, and it is possible to arrive walin or by car. I choosed walking and if you are in god shape it won't be hard to arrive. All the road up there is paved and much of the way has houses belonging to Manzanillo's middle and high classes. When I told you about the people from Manzanillo having to protect their nature I was mainly thinking about this. The green-covered mounts are still a common sight from the city, but if they keep covering them with houses the forest will be lost.
From the viewpoint you'll get a nice view of both bays, the beaches, the ocean and part of the city touristic area (like Las Hadas, the yatch club, golf courses etcetera) and the port. You may also take little breaks during your walking up if you get tired, some points of the road also has some nice views. Do not forget to take comfortable shoes and beverages. If it is a sunny day it would be better to walk up there in the morning or in the afternoon so the weather isn't so hot. Leave a Comment Directions: Santiago's peninsula.
