On the rooftop bar....

Well Mamma Mia has it all....a restaurant, multiple bars, live music, dance music, and a view! I usually hung out on the rooftop bar where the top of the Parroquia was visible because all the other bars and the restaurant were packed. The drinks are normally priced for a bar. It is a nice place to spend the evening and you can find an atmosphere to fit any mood.

Bola Ocho: Authentic Pool Hall

It doesn't have a sign and doesn't advertise, but it is the real deal: an upstairs pool hall with a dozen or so tables where the locals, both Mexican and gringo like to hang out, shoot some pool and have a beer. Not a heavy scene, it caters to grandpas, teenagers and anyone else who wanders in. It's a good place to see everyday life and maybe meet some locals.

Limerick Pub: A Pint of Guiness in Mexico

Pull up a chair...

Well, you know its a tourist town when there is an Irish bar in town (there is actually two), but this bar is actually a cool place to hang out. And go figure, this Irish pub is ran by Argentinians. Although there are no darts for the dart board, there is free pool and guiness on tap. In the back room is a cozy area with sofas and fluffy chairs. The crowd is mostly younger, but there are many groups of friends/families that come in to hang out as well. Sometimes the music is awesome and sometimes the DJ just hasn't found his groove.

Limerick (Pub Irlandes): Where to go when the restaurant closes!

Limerick changed my idea of what San Miguel is ... it's the place where not just the old 'gringos' get together, you can find people from all ages drinking all night long!

Depending on the day, they may have a live band or just cool DJs spinning pretty cool stuff!

They also have a quite good selection of imported beer, which is Mexico is not so easy to find...

Dress Code: Again, there's no code!

Chocolate: Here's where I finished my night ...

Once the things start to cool down at Limerick... everybody goes to Chocolate, where there's another great DJ rocking with some excellent house music.

The place has a very cool vibe, even though most of the people are already drunk... there's an amazing atmosphere!

Dress Code: Forget about it!!

Berlin Restaurant: A good option to start the night...

Whether you want to have some drinks with some 'botana' ... or perhaps a good dinner, Berlin is a great option to start the night.

It's a beautiful lounge-looking place, it closes at midnight... and when they close, everybody goes to some other bar... which most of the time is Limerick (an Irish pub across the street).

The Jardin at night: People watching at the Jardin

Most wonderful place to sit at night with a glass of wine or bottle of beer and watch people meet and stroll around. Many have fallen in love on the Jardin and many have fallen in love with San Miguel while sitting around the Jardin.

Dancing in the streets

The best place to spend the night during September festivities in San Miguel is the streets. Avoid paying ridiculous US$50 as a cover to a restaurant or club at night.

I'm not supposed to say this but you can buy wine bottles on any shop and use vases such as the one I'm carrying on the picture and I can asure you the funniest and tipsiest night of your life along with friends!

If you didn't book a place to stay overnight, don't worry, you can sleep on the benches if you get time after dancing and before the sun rises. Another option which I'm supposed not to say, is sleeping on the church's benches! =)

Dress Code: Anything goes.
