  • Cafe del Sol: Delicious food and free Internet

by foobah Written Sep 12, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a little coffee shop on the Ancha de San Antonia, just past Cinco de Mayo. It's out of the way but worth looking for. The coffee is the best in town, the food on the breakfast and lunch menu is all delicious and the Internet is free. There is one terminal for free checking of email and the Web. If you have your own computer they will give you the password to sign into their system and browse the Web until your battery runs down or you tire of it.

Favorite Dish: The flan is the best I have ever had anywhere.

Hamburger stand in the main plaza

by jungles Written Apr 7, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We were having a very hard time finding a restaurant for dinner that fit within our budget, so we were relieved when we found a young man grilling hamburgers at a stand on the main plaza. Once we bit into our hamburgers, our relief turned to amazement at how good they were. It was possibly the best burger I've ever eaten in my life; don't miss it. I believe he only opens in the evenings, which is convenient because other budget eateries around town seem to close by about 6pm.

Favorite Dish: Hamburger with the works. If you like bacon, make sure to add a strip or two.

Villa Jacaranda: Dinner, Movie, and a Bed

by lareina Updated Jan 20, 2005

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In addition to being a lovely restaurant, Jacaranda is also a hotel and movie theatre. For meals, they serve inside in the intimate dining room or outside on the verdant patio. The food and service are both excellent.

Favorite Dish: The filete was amazing.

L'Invito: My Favourite Restaurant in San Miguel

by lareina Written Jan 20, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Call me crazy, but my favourite restaurant in San Miguel is an Italian restaurant...L'Invito. This restaurant is located inside the beautiful Instituto Allende and has an amazing view of the Parroquia especially when it glows pink at sunset. The owner, Silvia, is from Milan and she knows how to please. Her specials are always amazing and if you put her in charge of your menu you will not be let down. Monday through Friday food AND drinks are half off from 4-7pm.

Favorite Dish: The best caprese salad I have had outside of Europe!

    Birdcages in the patio.

Cha Cha Cha is a cozy little Mexican restaurant ran by a Mexican-American couple in the neighborhood of Colonia San Antonio. They have great cheap meals and a lovely patio decorated with streamers and bird cages. The specials are always good.

Cafe de la Parroquia Restaurante-Patio: Great Breakfasts and More

by lareina Written Jan 14, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This restaurant serves breakfasts and lunches (and even dinners) in a cozy courtyard near the Parroquia. I enjoyed the chilaquiles verdes for breakfast. Food is simple, hearty, and decently priced. The atmosphere is relaxing with a central fountain and birds singing from cages.

    Bugambilia: A Lovely Courtyard Meal

by lareina Written Jan 14, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Bugambilia is a beautiful Mexican restaurant near the Jardin. Although the interior is lovely, the courtyard is filled with star-lights and the sounds of live mariachi music. The food is very good as is the service. I enjoyed la sopa azteca, the filete, and also the fajitas.

Azafran: Possibly the Best Restaurant in Town

by lareina Written Jan 14, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Aproveche!

Azafran is a stylish restaurant in the center of San Miguel that serves Mediterranean fusion cuisine. The white walls provide a classic backdrop for elegant tables and amazing dishes. The service is exquisite. Everything I ate was delicious and I would love to go back to try the other menu items.

Highly recommended for an elegant/romantic evening out.

El Palacio Chino (The China Palace): Be sure and stop by the China Palace!

    by Royal63 Written Jan 7, 2005

    Christmas at the Palace

Conveniently located near the Jardin on Mesones, this Chinese restaurant is a refreshing stop after a long day of shopping or sight-seeing.
Expect slow service, but the food is worth the wait. Nice courtyard appearance, and while you are waiting for your food, there is a really nice CHOCOLATE store inside the courtyard area. Yum!

Favorite Dish: I had the Teriyaki Chicken. It was WONDERFUL.

El Tomato: Do you speak American?

    by Aelena23 Written Jun 22, 2004

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Hmm, I am in this restaurant and am reading a copy of Vanity Fair. Hmm. Gee, look at this decor. Heavens, I must be in Boston! Or New York! Or...or...Portland, Maine. But the staff speaks Spanish. How curious. El Tomato is a small cafe serving vegetarian food (including some fish dishes) at decent, but San Miguel-ish, prices. The burgers are not of burger consistency, but they are surprisingly tasty.

Favorite Dish: Try one of the Hawaiian burgers--piña, cheese, burger (pieces keep falling off!), and a nice whole wheat roll. Also, the agua fresca del día is generally a good bet.

Casa de Sierra Nevada: Proof that hotel food can be great

by karenincalifornia Written Mar 9, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Casa de Sierra Nevada, San Miguel de Allende, MX

We ate dinner one night at our hotel, Casa de Sierra Nevada. The cuisine is international and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for more formal dining.

The restaurant has both a beautiful indoor dining room and a charming courtyard/patio.

Favorite Dish: One dish that particularly stands out is a superb cream of garlic and onion soup. In fact, it was so good, I asked the chef for the recipe 4 times. Each time he said "Come back in __ (2, 4, 12 hours, tomorrow, fill in the blank) and I will have it for you." Each time I came back, it wasn't ready for me. Finally, when we checked out, the chef took my address and said he would mail it.

    We are still waiting.
