Airport transportation Renting a car in San Miguel

by CarmenCarmena Written Feb 10, 2010

    I would recommend www.sanmiguelsupershuttle.com
They have good pricing and reliable services. I have used them many times, and have recommended to others. Rent a car at San Miguel Rent a Car on Calle Codo. Owner Jose Antonio is very amenable to negotiable multiple day rates. Make sure you ask for a car with power steering. Don't assume you'll get the same quality of cars in the states.

  • Another recommendation for Reyes Ortiz Taxi Servic

Reyes with the family at the Mexico City Airport

I would also highly recommend Reyes Ortiz's taxi service. I had Reyes and his friend Adrian take me to and from the Leon Airport to San Miguel De Allende in December 2009. The return trip was at 3:45 a.m., and they were on time at our pickup point in San Miguel. They both speak very good english, and are happy and energetic people.

Later in the week, I had Reyes take my wife/kids/sister-in-law and her kids from San Miguel De Allende to the Mexico City airport in his Suburban. My wife said that Reyes told some very entertaining stories about San Miguel, which helped make the 3 hour ride to Mexico City pass by quickly. He drives very safely and responsibly. Enclosed below is a picture of Reyes with his Mexico City passengers.

For anyone going to San Miguel and needing transportation to and from the Airports in Queretaro, Leon or Mexico City or to other towns and sights to see in the area, we highly recommend Reyes Ortiz.
He is not only a very pleasant person but a good businessman. He speaks very good English, is very knowledgeable and informative of San Miguel de Allende and the other cities, towns and attractions in this part of Mexico and has very reasonable rates.
He also gives tours to Dolores Hidalgo, Queretaro, Atotonilco, Guanajuato, Mexico City and other sites.

We used another transportation service earlier, then tried Reyes and we continued to use him for the duration of our trip. He was a tremendous help and delightfully informative. We will definitely be using his services everytime we return to San Miguel.
    We Highly Recommend Him.

    Green taxi cars everywhere!

    Typical street scene

Once you are in San Miguel de Allende, you don't need a car to rent to get places around the town. Just about everywhere you walk, you will see these small green taxi cars. Just hail one down and for about 20 pesos (or $2), you can be driven back to your hotel after a long day of shopping or wherever you need to go. The drivers are nice and very helpful.

Your own private chauffeur will pick you up!

When you land at the Leon (BJX) airport, you could get one of many shuttle vans to drive you to San Miguel, but for nearly the same cost, just email Javier Karabasz (lkarabasz@hotmail.com) your plans- include airline, flight number and time of your approx. arrival. He will be there waiting for you with a sign that has your name on it. No waiting to fill the van, waiting for other customers. He will put the luggage in the trunk and you will ride comfortably in the car back to San Miguel. He speaks fluent English and loves to talk! Very very nice man. Next time I return to San Miguel (May 2005), I will take a picture of him next to his car.

Rent a car to get there - then park it

    San Miguel de Allende

We rented a car in Mexico City and drove to San Miguel de Allende. As I recall, it took us about 3 hours. The hardest part was getting out of Mexico City. Once we were out of the city, the drive was a breeze.

When you get to San Miguel, just park your car and don't use it again until you are ready to leave, unless you are visiting the countryside. The trafffic is too congested in the city to do any car sightseeing.
