San Miguel de Allende Things to Do

It's easy to take a bus from Guanajuato to San Miguel de Allende. And well worth it. SMA is far nicer and more fun than any of the cities you've mentioned. You might want to check out alternative lodging at a hostel or even run an ad on the Yahoo Civil List for SMA.You might want to check out our list of 30 top things to do at AllSanMiguel.com.We...

  • Horseback riding

I highly recommend Xotolar Ranch Adventures for horseback riding. in San Miguel. Tomas Morin picked us up at our hotel in San Miguel and took us to his family's ranch. We went riding on a rugged trail through the countryside, up and down a canyon and through a river. As a first time rider, I was completely comfortable with Tomas and a nephew...

Of course there are many famous and beautiful murals around Mexico, mostly by Diego Rivera, and Siquieros, but at the INSTITUTE de ALLENDE in San Miguel, there are also some beautiful large wall murals worth seeing; just walk into the main entrance and go to the back wall. Unfortunately, I do not know who the artist is.The Institute is a place to...

Recently opened 3 minutes from the Jardin, this darling restaurant has both a lovely inside dining room and a beautiful patio. Sitting in either place is tranquil. San Miguel de Allende Nightlife

  • Authentic Pool Hall

It doesn't have a sign and doesn't advertise, but it is the real deal: an upstairs pool hall with a dozen or so tables where the locals, both Mexican and gringo like to hang out, shoot some pool and have a beer. Not a heavy scene, it caters to grandpas, teenagers and anyone else who wanders in. It's a good place to see everyday life and maybe meet...

Limerick changed my idea of what San Miguel is ... it's the place where not just the old 'gringos' get together, you can find people from all ages drinking all night long!Depending on the day, they may have a live band or just cool DJs spinning pretty cool stuff! They also have a quite good selection of imported beer, which is Mexico is not so easy...

San Miguel de Allende Local Customs

  • Look at the local policemen... aren't...

They don't look really aggressive or impressing but they certainly look pittoresque and even cute. You will see them riding their horses around the streets in downtown and the central park, and I'm sure their main goal is to guide and inform tourists & people in general rather than prevent crime: since San Miguel is so safe I don't think they would...

Back to OUATIM: The Parroquía scene is easy to find in the movie AND in San Miguel. The "pistolero" scene was, I think, filmed in the plaza a couple doors up from Casa de Huéspedes, on Mesones. This is San Francisco Temple.... I would have loved to see the inside of the church but unfortunately there was a funeral taking place in front of the main door when we passed by (before leaving town) and we could not go in.
