choose the right beach
Some of the posts have mentioned large sand grains, or big waves, or great sunsets. Yes and no: it depends upon the beach. One of the greatest things about Acapulco (compared to just about any other beach resort in Mexico) is the diversity of beaches. You will be disappointed if you choose the wrong beach for what you want. Here is a list of the best beaches.
SCUBA: Roqueta (still not in the league of Cozumel)
SUNSETS: Pie de la Cuesta
KIDS WADING IN: Caleta, Puerto Marquez
BIG SAND GRAINS LIKE GRAVEL: Caleta or Base Naval.
POWDERY SAND: Hornos
HORSES: Pie de la Cuesta

about acapulco's beaches......
about acapulco's beaches... THIS IS JUST A NOTE... be prepared to witness some of the largest grains of sand you have ever seen...
the grains of sand are so oversized that they will stick in your memory permanently... it just adds to the spectacular beauty, and the memory...
Unknown to some tourists, this...
Unknown to some tourists, this lovely beach is on Isla Roqueta. A perfect place for people who prefer to park themselves away from the crowd. It is isolated and far from the public beaches of Isla Roqueta. To get there, from docking area turn to your right and walk up on a very narrow slippery passage towards the South Pacific Ocean. It is approximately 15-30 minutes hike and beware of stray dogs.
BEWARE OF DOGS ON ISLA DE ROQUETA!!!
Isla de Roqueta. The secluded beach was gorgeous but apparently in the last 2-3yrs the restaurant that you have to pass by to get to that gorgeous beach (a bit rocky, so watch your step and beware of the waves pushing you into waves, but it was quite incredible, totally isolated, etc).Unfortunately, when my friend and i had almost made it back to the restaurant, 3 dogs ran at us, totally unprovoked and we had to stand completely still for 10 minutes to get them to finally sit down. Then, when we realized no one could see us or was coming near so i tried to walk a total of two steps and two dogs came lunging and barking at me. One grasped the whole back of my thigh so i got a bruise all around it and it broke skin. The ower of the restaurant said the dogs usually sleep during the day and are only guarding at night but they aren't at all caged and there are no signs to warn you of their existence. The restaurant did get a doctor over right away but it was still the scariest moment of my life, i suffered with an awfully painful bruise, and the rabies shots i've had to get are terribly painful and a pain to get the whole dosage.
just a warning! the beach is amazing but i had a better time at pie de las cuesta, which buses go to. we spent all day at the beach and using the pool of a hotel pretty far in (there are a bunch of them to choose from) and only had to spend about $10 US each (even though they didn't really seem to be enforcing the minimum). Seriously, it was one of the most tranquil places ever and made up for the trauma of the previous day. Plus, there are lots of cute, tame, cuddly dogs at this place.
