*ALWAYS BUY AND DRINK ONLY BOTTLED WATER
*A quick and easy way to ruin a trip is to drink unsafe water. Although most restaurants are safe, always stay on the side of caution
*Make sure to also drink enough fluids...doesn't mean only BEER!!!
*Even in December it was over 90 degrees and humid
*
*It gets hot and is muggy in Acapulco so drinking fluids before you go out and throughout the day is a must
*Once you get dehydrated, it's too late for you! You'll take days to recover which could mean you'll be home by then with a bunch of wasted days recouping in your hotel room
*Also, once you feel kind of thirsty...could mean it's too late too
My friend and I stayed in the downtown area for the first week and never once went into the ocean. The bay was filthy and from the 5th floor we could actually see trash floating, despite the fact that every morning a boat trolled for garbage.
The water was always brown and murky and didn't seem safe for small children to be in. This was the case pretty much along the entire lower bay.
We took a scuba trip, the boat was old, I actually thought it would sink and the guide didn't speak any English. They don't carry insurance so your on your own...if you get hurt you can't go after them.
The tide in Acapulco is very powerful. Unless you are a good swimmer, don't go too far from the shore, it is really risky and people drown - even in Paradise. Also, don't play silly games on a jet ski, a frontal collision at 60 mph will kill you.
Around the Costa Club the beach drops quite steeply into the sea. The sand is quite gritty and the undertow after a wave breaks is very strong. The sea at this point is certainly not safe for children. I myself was knocked over by one wave and suffered quite a bad graze on my leg, and I was not the only one. There are other places along the bay where the slope is not as steep and these are much safer for sea bathing.
Though this photo does not show it too well, this was intended to show the power of the waves surging back into the sea. It is so strong it is difficult at times to keep your balance, as I found out to my cost.
*Make sure that your drinks have ice cubes that are made from a safe ice machine
*The ice cube that are safe usually have holes in them.
