Rufo's: Bananas Flambe
Rufo's is a divine outdoor restaurant on a street corner, in a quiet neighbourhood just behind Playa Madera, just down the hill from Casa Adriana where we stayed. The owner, Rudolfo, was extremely friendly and polite, and made a Bananas Flambe that was out of this world! Prices were really reasonable, and the food was good and tasty.
Favorite Dish: Shrimp dish, and red snapper.
Cocodrilo's Cafe: Watch your Feet!
Its not named Cocodrilo's Cafe for nothing. Just a few footsteps away is a lagoon full of crocodiles and there's nothing between you and them, but some beautiful white sand.
This hotel restaurant serves fresh local seafood and fresh juices, and also caters to the tourists with some basic food options on the menu. But that definitely wasn't the reason we had breakfast and lunch here many times.
It was the adventure of spotting the crocodiles in the nearby lagoon (which, by the way, are fed by the restaurant staff!!) that made this spot unforgettable!
no shown name.. like most in Zihua: can't beat the price or quality!
When you arrive off the panga, a local will ask you to follow him and you will take a short little hike through some woods and at the top you will see a veiw (I have it saved for my Isla Ixtapa tip). This is where you can go for some real snorkeling, and its more secluded than the beach you first arrive on. Not hard to find. At the bottom, he will seat you in his beach chairs, and under an umbrella. Ask to see the menu and you will be pleasently surprised- he will bring out the actual food you can order- raw. A plate of FRESH fish, lobster and prawns is more than enough to share between two people.
And get this - its $40 USD!
Favorite Dish: I think this is one of the only dishes they serve, but it is definatly delicious!

ITA Cafetería Restaurant y Arte: Best Breakfast and Lunch in Zihua!
Located on a quiet and cozy street in Zihuatanejo, ITA Cafetería Restaurant y Arte is a hidden gem. Open for breakfast and lunch, this restaurant serves authentic and traditional Mexican cuisine. The food is absolutely amazing! The meals and ingredients are fresh, colorful, clean, healthy and full of flavor. Each dish is prepared with exceptional care, pride and presentation. Come here to start your day with traditional sopes or chilaquilisimos, café and jugo. Or just stop by to sip té, read a book, talk with friends and enjoy the relaxing ambiance and Mexican artwork. The owner, Ita, is an avid collector of Mexican art, and some of it is proudly displayed on the walls. Without doubt, this is the best restaurant for breakfast and lunch in all of Zihuatanejo.

Cafeteria Nueva Zelanda: Lonely Planet calls one correctly (for once)
We had read about this Cafe in the Lonely Planet Travel Guide. Milk based espresso drinks were highly recommended. We were not disappointed.
This cafe has two entrances, one on the bigger street it is located on and one from the smaller street in the back. Both sides have outdoor seating but the back street is much quieter and better shaded. There is also indoor seating. Restaurant is very clean. Bathrooms were spotless.
Favorite Dish: All we experienced were the Cappaccinos. They were very, very good, best we have experienced anywhere in Mexico. Excellent? Mmmm...not quite, but definitely worth ferreting out if you are in town.
