Mineral del Chico Transportation
From Mexico City go to the Terminal Norte and take a Estrella Blanca or ADO bus to Pachuca (around Pesos $40 per person one way). Buses depart every 15 minutes and the trip takes 1 hour 15.
Once in Pachuca you have three options: taxi, collectivo (pesero) or private transportation. For the latter, just call Ray on 713 98 26 - he does 6 times per day the liaison with the hotels in the area.
A taxi ride will cost you around Pesos $160.
The collectivo is only Pesos $7.50 per person and leaves from Calle Loreto. But be aware that you might have to wait 30 minutes until you leave and the ride will be no less than 45 minutes long.
Mineral del Chico Off The Beaten Path
Here are some activities around the village (where things to do are pretty scarce):
Mirador Pena del Cuervo: you will need a car to get there. At 2800 m. altitude you will enjoy a stunning scenery including the village at your feet, forests all around you and the rocky Monjas to your left. Well worth the effort!
Presa el Cedral: this is a small artificial lake with a dam. The area is generally quite busy with rowing boats and horses if you fancy either activity. Not very spectacular and not a loss if avoided. Entrance: Pesos $20.
Valle de los Enamorados: you can admire there two rocks in a position of embrace. Nearby is a site to practice rock climbing.
Mina de Acosta: located in nearby Real del Monte this is a silver mining site converted in 2001 into a museum. The visit is quite interesting and includes a lot of objects and details about silver mining from 1824 until nowadays. A 250 m. walk into a tunnel to the heart of the mountain will give you a feeling for what miners are living on a daily basis. Entrance: Pesos $20. Open from 10AM until 6PM.
