We had our best meal here during our trip. We stayed in Nuevo Vallarta (seriously lacking good restaurants) and went downtown to Puerto Vallarta one night. This was recommended by JR (vallartainfo.com) - we wanted to go to El Arrayan but they were closed (it was Tuesday). La Ronda is the cutest narrow little restaurant on a side street downtown and a welcome sight for our sore feet (schlepping around downtown cobblestone streets with a stroller is not a good idea). Sebastian was the only waiter so service was a little slow but he gave our 2 year old a little toy to play with and let him take it home which was great. We had the shrimp with two sauces and the mole-sauce beef (can't remember the exact name- comes in a sizzling hot crock from the specials menu) - fantastic!! Authentic, home cooked flavor and feel. We are NYC-spoiled foodies so hard to please. Highly recommended.
La Ronda A tiny fonda, as they are called here - family owned and operated restaurant. The decorations are worth the trip....about as tacky as you can imagine, so much so they actually look good! Closed on Mondays. For such a tiny place, amazing food. Ask for the special menu as they have so many things that they all do not fit on the regular menu. My favorite is the chicken in wine sauce - one of the only places that uses real, fresh mushrooms! Located on Aquiles Serdan Street which is one block past the flea market heading south, first street turn left and walk about 1 block. La Ronda is on the right with some birdcages in front.
