Food, music, atmoshpere, location...La Bodeguita has it all. Whether you are coming for the latin beat or the fantastic food (with a view on the second floor of the ocean), this is a place you must visit when in PV. You can purchase real Cuban cigars as well as real Cuban rum here...totally awesome. Plus every now and then, you get to meet wonderful people like Alejandra who try and teach you how to dance...lol
This was my second time to eat at La Bodeguita and I must say that it's truly a place I will return to again and again. LJ selected Camarón Al Mojo Naranja (succulent shrimp sautéed in an orange garlic sauce) while I had the Masas de Cerdo (fried pork chunks with sautéed onions). As sides, we had Arroz Amarillo (yellow rice cooked in beer) and Frijoles Negros (black beans)...ummm, ummm, good!!! And of course, I had to have a rum and coke made with Havana Rum/Blanco...delicious!!! Done in the same style as the celebrated bar in Cuba founded in 1942, this place has the same powerful fascination of the old days in the romantic city of Havana. From the downstairs dining area, three windows open to the action on the Malecón while the view of the bay from the upstairs dining room is absolutely stunning.
The music is Cuban, as are the chef, barmen, cooks and menu, featuring pork, rice and beans as the staples. Don't forget to visit the souvenir, cigar, rum (choose the Havana Brand) & music shop next door.
Multiple choices abound in this cozy yet festive restaurant, but I would recommend the Paella De La Bodeguita which includes chicken, beef, shrimp and pork with spiced yellow rice. This place has a reputation for very good authentic Cuban food.
The people here were very friendly, the service was exceptional, the food was delicious and the music was SALSA!
The tradition here is that everyone who comes here has to sign their name somewhere on the wall or the ceiling, wherever there was room.
