this is the best...period...be a traveler not just a tourist...check it out. above the mercado municipal on the north side of the river at the end of the calle insurgentes bridge there are a whole bunch of "fondas" or small family run restaurant stalls. they are all spectacular. they all serve Mexican home cooking in all its perfect glory. they are beyond inexpensive. the service and atmosphere is second to none in the world. will always return...in fact...can't wait. favorites include Comida Economica Tia for sopes or huevos...fonda Hernandez for soup or stew...but hey...have eaten at them all and never anything but blown away. go for the smaller ones though if you can. and get there early.
Favorite Dish: it doesn't matter. whether it is red snapper a la plancha. caldo de res, pollo, or camaron, chile relleno, puerco en salsa verde, bistec ranchero or Mexicana, or whatever it is great. and the fresh hot tortillas come as needed. don't forget to wash it down with un agua de flor de jamaica. enjoy!
