There are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to buying souvenirs in Puerto Vallarta. You just have to make up your mind and be ready to start bargaining. Some of the pieces the vendors sell make for very nice souvenirs!
What to buy:
ceramic pieces, jewelry, resort wear
What to pay:
half of the asking price!!!!
There are plenty of beach vendors in Puerto Vallarta, so you can do your shopping right on the beach.
Some of the things they sell are really nice and the beauty of it is that you can bargain even more than you do it in stores. Start by offering half of the asking price. The vendor will try to make you pay as much as possible for the things you are considering buying, but stay firm with your offer and he/she will eventually agree to your price. If not, don't worry, another one will stop by and will most likely have the same stuff for sale.
The vendors on the beach are very interesting to talk to and they will give a good price for their wares. The more you buy the better deal you get in general. After they sell you something they will stop by sometimes just to chat...I am always interested to hear about their life and culture and I think they are curious about mine....Silver, t-shirts, carvings, paintings, seafood are just some of the items you can get from the vendors
What to buy:
If you like t-shirts an dresses you can often get a good deal on them right on the beach!!!
What to pay:
Varies but dresses you can get for 10.00 US or 100.00 peso. Silver will vary depending on the wieght and the stones etc..
A huge 2- or 3-floor artisan market near the Río Cuale, I believe... Plenty of selection for souvenirs, and blankets, or whatever things Mexican you would like to take home. I was there before high season, so it might be different during high season, but if there are no sales, beware you will have all the vendors vying for your purchase.
How could I forget about shopping. There are so many places to go shopping in Puerto Vallarta that you can become dizzy.
One of the best places where you can shop for quality stuff at decent prices is at Señor Frog's Clothesline Shop in downtown PV.
Lots of things in the store, but sorry no haggling for better deals. Haggling is best left for the flea market.
What to buy:
Shirts, hats, sunglasses, cups...all the typical things you purchase in order to remember your holiday.
What to pay:
Typically you could end up spending anywhere from $10.00 (USD) to $100.00 (USD) easy on any given occasion.
Mom and Pop stores that sell local homemade items!
What to buy:
Whatever you see or want
What to pay:
If you know how to barter...you will do well.
There are many vendors at the pier. Their wares are very colorful and they are all so helpful. It was here that I found two tiny Mexican hats for my 8 month old grandsons.
