Carr. Tesistan 1700, Zona Tesistan, ZAPOPAN, JAL,
Good for: Couples
This is the kind of place you only read about in travel guides because you can't find them.
It is a small, four tables, pizzeria with a brick oven. THe style is " pizza a la lena" or cooked in an horno beside an open fire. This was the best tasting pizza I have had in many years. Thin crust and it was ready in just a few minutes. THe presentation was good but not elegant. It was rustic and charming. I have almost always taken pizza home for later, but this was so good, we ate all of it right away.
If you can find it you must try it!
Zapopan Local Customs
It seems that everywhere you go there is someone to help you out, and they would like a tip, most times. You can tell when someone is just helping or if they are providing a service. I've found that if you take the time to learn a few words of spanish, and be polte, you will have plenty of friendly guidance. Don't be a typical loud pushy American because you will get the same in return. THis holds true for almost any spot in the world. The mexicans are friendly, very Catholic and down to earth. Respect that and you will have a wonderful experience here.
If you plan on an extended trip then you should definatley try to practice good manners. THey are a conservative culture.
Favorite thing: Guadalajara and the enire mega city that includes Zapopan, Tonala and Tlaquepaque, are very high in altitude. 5200 feet and the air is very dry. Drink plenty of water, cover your head and dont forget the chapstick and sunblock. Skin lotion and comfortable walking shoes are a must also.
